Hi All,
I noticed there was a update in the Windows Update > Advanced Options > Optional Updates MS AudioProcessingObjectDriver Update (10.3.56670)
Could have been there since last WU,,,not sure. I am running Sound Blaster card so I was wondering if this one is needed considering I don't use the onboard audio?
Can anyone give me some advice on this driver?

Cheers

Don't mess with the driver(s) unless there is a 'need' to.
That driver will still be in the Optional updates if you ever need it.

Just a quick Google found this... top result...

Likewise.

If it makes any difference, I have most of the drivers I installed in May 2020 (Win 10) still running in Win 10 and now in Win 11. I always update the chipset drivers when new ones come out, and I flash the BIOS when 'needed".

Other than that... I leave the drivers alone.

Install it.

MS AudioProcessingObjectDriver Update is a Microsoft Audio Processing Object (APO) driver update. It’s not a main Realtek/Intel/USB audio driver it’s a background audio‑effects component that Windows uses for things like noise reduction, echo cancellation, voice clarity, spatial audio, and other enhancement layers. It's not a 3rd party driver. Advice not to update drivers isn't the greatest advice IMO

Just install it, not really a driver, as it says it is an APO.
You will find this (Voice Clarity) and others in the Device Manager. Expand the branch for "Audio Processing Objects (APOs)"

You may have 1 or more additional ones from Sound Blaster.

Don't mess with the driver(s) unless there is a 'need' to.
That driver will still be in the Optional updates if you ever need it.

NOTE: If you intend to ignore this advice, make a full backup, first. :-)

This post shows that someone is having issues with it cutting out. I wouldn't install it especially if you aren't good with uninstalling it. It's not a needed update. I wouldn't risk it. I got this update and since i found that post I am not risking it. I got my own software to do all of this.

I saw this in the Optional updates section on a number of PCs over the last week. Just today, I saw it already installed in Device Manager under a new, top-level driver category "Audio Processing Objects (APOs)" on a couple PCs, and watched it automatically appear and install as a normal update on another PC.

No, you're the one telling someone not to update their PC, which isn't always great advice, Ghot, that's all. Sure that works for some 3rd party drivers, buit this is a Windows component.

I have most of the drivers I installed in May 2020

That's just weird.

No, you're the one telling someone not to update their PC, which isn't always great advice, Ghot, that's all. Sure that works for some 3rd party drivers, buit this is a Windows component.

That's just weird.

Ya know what else is "just weird"?

People that quote just parts of what others say... for effect. :/

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
All seems good after I installed the driver. I see no difference in the audio so far. Thanks for the replies.

If it is about an audio effect you will never use, why risk breaking something else? Probably it is "harmless", but better safe than sorry. I see you already installed it, let's hope it won't cause any incompatibilities with older apps using the audio card. Also newer driver is not always better. I remember in the 90's installing nVidia drivers (they were called nVidia Detonator back then) and losing some features I had before or some other incompatibility. Fortunately, I always keep a copy of the previous working drivers, so I restored the previous driver and everything was as before. I advise to do the same. Always keep a copy of the latest drivers and at least one previous version just in case you need it. Next time you download a newer driver, you can safely delete the older copy and keep a copy of the current and latest driver.
