This is a classic case of regurgitating noise to simply disparage a product never used.

Dru2 to put a disclaimer on your comment, i never said i haven't used it, meaning Norton or McAfee ! I said i based it on what my clients reported !! And if you check my other post i usually end with !!

Iit may be claimed Norton may be a resource hog ( probably with older slower computers ) but with more recent computers having more ram and ssd space it isn't a problem, certainly not from my experience

I just bought Norton 360 Deluxe not too long ago (only because of a real good deal ) , I used to use it years ago and yes there was a time when it was just over bloated but I can confirm, that statement is no longer true.

Only thing I DO NOT like about it is in order for their virus removal warranty to stay in effect you have to leave rebilling (payment) info intact on your Norton profile. You can remove your payment info from it after installation but it states very clearly that when you do if by any chance you need them to remove any virus from your system they will not which I think sucks, but then again I have never needed the assistance of an antivirus vendor to remove a virus for me , hell in 26 years I have had only one virus , that was a drive by and was able to remove it myself.

I have only ever used Norton and have never had that problem, the only thing I get is WS.reputation.1 which is not a virus or malware but it just means it is possible to be one. It is normally on newly released files which are fine, however, it does give you the choice of what to do. I think the wording could be changed so it is more obvious what type of file it is

Yup! They want to be sure that when your subscription expires, they get to bill you for the next year without your approval.

I had multiple "hits" on both. And, although they may be better now, once bitten . . . Besides, Defender is adequate for me. I haven't had any malware on any of my computers in years.

I have learned that when I install Adobe Reader I need to uncheck the McAfee stuff. One year paid license or not, I don't want it on my 'chines, so I have Unchecky installed in case I miss unchecking something.

When I first installed it I did an entire system scan consisting of six different drives and it found nothing , system was clean, so I would like to question what exactly it found on your pc? maybe not false positives?

It was a few years ago, and I don't remember exactly what they "found", but the system was newly installed for the test. I know for a fact that it was clean, since it was installed without benefit of the 'net.

Yes but what most do not know, if you remove your billing info, when your subscription expires , they don't want to lose your business , so the chances of you having to pay the full re-subscription price of around $118 drops exponentially because they want to keep you.

When you buy a software subscription , never , NEVER pay the full re-subscription price. Most times if the vendor wants to keep you , you can get anywhere from 30 to 50% off or more.

Any subscription software I buy , I immediately remove my billing information after installation and registration.

Sorry man but you can't have a norton shill thread without past users experiences as well lol

Personally best thing about norton is they introduced me to malwarebytes to clean what they failed to
A) Block
B) Clean within their own built in features

Since then I switched to mbam pro saved a crapload of money over 12 years since mbam pro was a one time lifetime license 25.us a pop and I got 4 and guess what it's still free for realtime protection and I never looked back unless someone throws down a mcafee/ norton shill thread and it just makes me laugh so yeah thanks for the laugh lol :lmao:

I never got anything out of mcafee they were/ are useless so at least norton support wasn't totally useless I learned from them what to really use for security and yeah no infections to date I've not changed my activity at all.

Only other good thing about norton is online backup because eventually you will need it :zany:

The real deal is they want you to leave your payment info so they can automatically renew your license once the current one expires. That If you remove your billing info, they can't renew your license (subscription), which in turn means no renewal, no virus updates. This ONLY happens after your current subscription expires, and you choose not to renew.

This is standard procedure for any software subscription. Nothing new here.

I used Norton for some time back in the Win 95/98 days and on into XP but I came to think of it as trying to do too many things. I went through Zone Alarm, McAfee, Avast, Kaspersky, but have settled on Malwarebytes for a good many years now. It is funny though after leaving Norton, that even Malwarebytes is more of a “suite” now, but I have two lifetime licenses so I'll stay with it unless they really mess it up.

Anti-virus and anti-malware programs each perform different tasks as it relates to computer security and threat detection. Essentially, they look for and remove different types of malicious threats.

In simplistic terms, Anti-virus programs use massive databases with different scanning engines and detection methods to scan for infectious malware which includes viruses, worms, Trojans, rootkis and bots.
Anti-malware programs use smaller databases and generally tend to focus more on adware, spyware, unwanted toolbars, browser hijackers, potentially unwanted programs and potentially unsafe applications.
So i say also use what ever you feel safe & protected with ! And every one should have a Malware Removal Specialist look through their machine at once a year so the guys at Bleeping Computer say !!
