New shutdown button

Years ago I saw my brother had shutdown and restart shortcuts on his dsktp and I've continued that practice on my machines. I keep mine in the lower left corner of my monitor.

You'll get discussion about different ways to shutdown and restart and how it's unnecessary to put them on the dsktp but they involve drilling down to the point where the cmd's are keep. This works for me.

This is my set for win10;

My set for Win11:

The shutdown cmd:

Code:

C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe /s /t 00

Restart:

Code:

C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe /r  /t 00

The codes work from win98, win7, win10, and win11.

At first I thought my taskbar icons looked blurry and they still do:

In shell32.dll is seems four icons are missing, including the blue power button.

I also have those 4 icons missing on Win 10...

But, if you keep scrolling to the right...

There's a LOT of icons in shell32.dll, and a lot of them come in TWO sizes as well.
In the top pic, that's the BIG yellow star... there's also a smaller one.

Also, if you Google: free Windows 11 icon packs ...you'll find bunches of them.

I have looked carefully many times, but I looked again and found it. I was using it for a restart shortcut but I changed it to one with two opposing blue arrows on a white circle. Thanks.

The native red Power icon has always been poor as it's maximum resolution is only 48x48 which makes it look bad on a non-native screen resolution or a higher dpi!

Is your resolution native?

The blue one came from the "change icon" window that opens after making the shorcut. Yes I do have resolution at 150% but that's recommended for this screen. All my other icons are sharp

Anak - can you explain how you get those icons please. ie where you put the codes.

This one is sharper

That'll do me for now. You can't get it any beyond the left side of the search bar though (ie next to the start button). But doesn't really matter. I like the idea of making your own icon's - I'd like one of a person running lol.

Here's all the Windows 10 shell32.dll icons. The Win 11 ones are pretty much the same, but some are... prettier.

Microsoft is evil for not making the change icon window, resizable. LOL
This pic took 12 screenshots.

Just think... you could take this to a Kinkos or similar, and have huge prints made.
Then you could wallpaper your computer room with this.

No. Once you Unblock and extract the icon, put it in a folder that will remain in it's place..., create a folder in Documents called Custom Icons, or something like that, place the icon it there, then, when choosing an icon for the Shutdown shortcut, click Browse and point to that new folder you created.

Remember, the Custom Icons folder has to remain unmoved and unchanged or the path to the icon will become corrupt.

It's the regular way to create a dsktp shortcut. Right clk on the dsktp and the context menu opens then point at new and clk on shortcut.

There are many free-icons sources on the Web. One I use is iconarchive.com, where you can download individual icons, put them in a folder of your choice, and use them when you make shortcuts and "Change icon."
