New SSD not where it boots from

Hi folks, I'm sure this is out there in this forum somewhere but; I am trying to ad an SSD just for extra storage, but when it's plugged in the computer won't boot at all. I know i need to send it to the bios menu which i can i believe through F2 on startup, but after that i'm lost. Thanks for any help!

You need to go into your BIOS settings and look for the boot priority list and reset it to boot from the original boot disk first.

It makes life easier if your Boot Disk is always on the lowest numbered SATA port, on the motherboard. Ports start numbering from zero, not one.
That's not to say that it's not important to have the boot order properly set up in the BIOS.

Also check to see if some ports are disabled when certain drives are fitted, some SATA ports might be unusable when NVME slots are filled, including some Wifi slots. The motherboard manual should show combinations that turn off ports if it applies to your board, even though it shouldn't prevent booting, it has been known.
