Just a thought, with the last .282 compatibility thing. I said in an earlier post I used Winaero Tweaker and set it up exactly the same ( except for the shift and right click option wouldn't bring up the Win 11 Start menu ) When it was all working again I used ExplorerPatcher 258.31.3 all is fine. My thoughts were if this happens again then Winaero Tweaker will stop the taskbar changing until I get the "mended" version of ExplorerPatcher.

Please tell me whether your pinned-to-the-taskbar Recycle Bin has the two absolute requirements for having Recycle Bin on the taskbar: the icon is dynamic (changes from empty to full and back), and there is a right-click menu that contains Empty Recycle Bin as an option.

I have the RB icon on my taskbar, but it's only a shortcut to the Recycle Bin folder. A left click opens the folder and shows the contents If any, and a click on Empty Recycle Bin does the trick. And I used Context Menu Tuner to add Empty Recycle Bin to my desktop context menu, and that entry IS dynamic: it's grey when there's nothing in there, and it's black when there's stuff in the Bin.

I could use the Context Menu Tuner solution by itself, or the static-shortcut-icon-on-the-taskbar solution by itself, and either one offers the two-click operation that was involved with the dynamic desktop icon, but without the desktop icon.

But it's just not the same when the taskbar icon has no context menu and is static, and/or when the desktop context menu entry has no icon.

Hi, yes mine changes from full to empty. Left click opens the folder and right click opens the context menu with empty recycle bin as an option, obviously this only works with either Winearo tweaker taskbar tweak or explorerpatcher. hope that is helpful. here is the link in case you need it.

Yeah, that answers the question alright. I know how to do it in 10, and it works. I just wanted to know whether your taskbar icon was working correctly (it obviously is) and how you got it to work if so, and you covered it: either Tweaker or ExplorerPatcher is the wizard behind the curtain.

I tried ExplorerPatcher earlier today, and was very impressed. Just having to add that one file to Windows strikes me as more acceptable than the WTweaker approach, which involves many files, even with the "portable."

@Wisewiz As you probably know, the only slight problem with explorerpatcher maybe if you get a new update of 11 it may not work for a few days waiting for an update to explorerpatcher. that's where Wineaeo tweaker comes in handy as everything is the same except shift+click won't bring up win 11 start menu ( no problem for me ) cheers

Yeah, I've read the information on the GitHub about symbols, and the delay involved.

It's great that so far Valentin (Valinet) has had such success with updating.

I've noticed some new files today under releases.. hardcoded symbols

Only guessing, but may be that would be addresing this problem

Tested it, and it runs just fine. Installed it with valinet's script, and it keeps all the settings :)

Not sure about using scripts, I shall have to learn ! I had a look at the new version and nothing much there I need, so I will look at scripts. I thought all new versions kept your settings maybe I need to check mine

Difference is only with explorer restart.. and copying amd64.dll instead of dxgi.dll
Here is mine (change the path to Downloads folder), the rest is the same as Roger posted:
