Solved Not getting 24h2 update notification in windows update

Windows 11 Pro
I have 3 Lenovo laptops and one self build desktop. All seem to be blocked as I have never got an update option in Windows update. Lenovo says the laptops all should be able to update to 24h2 and my self build uses an ASUS Z590-A MB that is up to date with all requirements. ASUS says my MB should be good to go. The CPU in an Intel 11900. Is there a program or list that would show why my computers are blocked?

They may not be blocked at all. Even though the rollout is widely available now, it's still a phased rollout and you may just be one of the last in the queue. One of my laptops, a Dell Latitude 5410 with 10th gen i7, has no known safeguard holds, but still hasn't been offered 24H2 yet.

You can see if Windows Update has detected any safeguard holds for your PC in Regedit, look to see if it says anything other than <none> in GatedBlockId and GatedBlockReason in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\TargetVersionUpgradeExperienceIndicators\GE24H2

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.

I wouldnt be excited to try to update to 24h2, lots of bugs. Just hold off until your system offers it.

The GateBlockid says "54762729" and GateBlockReason says "other". What are those responses saying? This is on my desktop computer.

Well, you were genuinely being blocked for your own protection. Good news, that safeguard hold has been resolved. You may see 24H2 offered soon.

Microsoft said:
Resolution: This issue was resolved by Windows updates released December 10, 2024 (KB5048667), and later. We recommend you install the latest security update for your device as it contains important improvements and issue resolutions, including this one.

The safeguard hold (ID 54762729) that was previously in place for this issue will be lifted in the coming days. Note that, once you install the Windows update addressing this issue, it may take up to 48 hours for the Windows 11, version 24H2 update to be offered via Windows Update. Restarting your device might expedite the process.

I agree with my learned fellow forum member, Andrew.
I don’t believe there is anything special offered in Build 24H2 that would warrant upgrading and having to deal with potential problems.

Not everybody experiences issues with 24H2, but the many that do, read like they’d be better off backdating. I personally found it to be way too problematic in the end and reloaded a backup of 23H2.

There is plenty of time to sit back and wait for the creases to be ironed out.

I have three supported devices. On my System One below, I tricked Windows Update into installing 24H2 at the beginning of October, it's not been too buggy. For the other two, one is still waiting for the offer, the other saw it offered a week ago. I tried it, then immediately went back to 23H2.

Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.

Me:
I got update (KB5048685), which includes (KB5048667), on Dec 10th and 24h2 has now shown up on two of my four computers. Hopefully it will show up on the other two in the next day or so. I do plan on taking the advise on this thread and not install 24h2 till sometime next year (like Oct of next year).

In the TPM section you want to change "Pending Operation" from None to TPM Clear.

I also thought there was something odd about 24H2 not beoing offered, but then recently it just happened and it was very quick as well. As for bugs, absolutely nothing on 2 machines. I would wait, and I agree with others I can't see any difference between 23H2 and 24H2
