Solved OneDrive unlink paranoia

brand new laptop. I'm logged in w/my MS account. I do NOT want onedrive on this laptop at all.
MS says to get into the taskbar, go to 1D settings and unlink but the message 'Your 1d files will stop synching. Locally available files will remain on the online only will be removed.'

I cannot imagine that this means the 500Gb of onedrive.com files will be deleted but I'm paranoid.

Please tell me I can unlink the PC and it won't delete all the files on onedrive.com

Yes, you're paranoid. They will not be deleted on OneDrive.com, only on your laptop. Why don't you want OneDrive anyway?

The files marked online only will be removed from your PC, not from the inter-clouds.

1D = do not want. Yes, I know. Everyone loves it.

Don't want to talk about it, I just don't want it. Honestly it's confusing and has screwed me in the past. Undoubtedly my fault, but I don't need and don't want it.

OK.. I used revo uninstaller to get rid of it. I uninstalled all office programs then installed O365 from the web. Again, maybe it was already on here but I don't want the new interface or web version, I don't want to learn, i just want what I know.

Under users/me onedrive is back. It looks like that are just links to what's on the 1d.com
How do I scrub 1D from this computer.

I'm assuming you've already been through this? Turn off, disable, or uninstall OneDrive - Microsoft Support

Block it is your hosts file.

onedrive is actually gone from everywhere on my PC except for the users/me/onedrive

Don't shoot me Josey, but how? I know what the hosts file is but not much more about it or even where it is. I used in the past to block some things, it's been a LONG time.

You can delete the OneDrive app that is used to create the link between your local OneDrive folder and cloud OneDrive. That does not delete cloud OneDrive.

You cannot delete cloud OneDrive. You get a default 5GB of cloud OneDrive with Windows. As much as you might want to hate it, you cannot delete the minimum 5GB of cloud OneDrive. It is simply part of Windows. To get rid of your default 5GB of cloud OneDrive you need to get rid of Windows itself and choose a different operating system.

How do i get rid of C:\Users\me\OneDrive\Documents?
On my previous laptop I created a couple folders c:user/mydox.local and then put them in quick access. But...I would like to get rid of the OneDrive above.

I do use onedrive.com i have 600gb of pic/vid etc...

If you have a Microsoft Account, you cannot delete cloud OneDrive. You get a default 5GB of cloud OneDrive with Windows. Strange because I did it. I also do not use any Office Programs, I have no need for them and Yes I have an MSA.

I've used OneDrive for over 15 years and have never been without it since its inception. I am not willing to test what happens without OneDrive as I will not test deleting OneDrive.

It is my understanding that OneDrive is tightly integrated with the Windows operating system. Even though you delete OneDrive and the OneDrive folder, you should still be able to access your default cloud OneDrive using the browser URL https://onedrive.live.com. What happens if you enter that URL in your browser?

It's not tightly integrated. Microsoft even provides an article on how to remove it. I use it extensively professionally, but not at all at home. It's removed from my home machines, and I've never had an issue because of it. (I have plenty of issues, but not computer-related.)

We can’t connect to the server at onedrive.live.com.

If you entered the right address, you can:

Try again later
Check your network connection
Check that Firefox has permission to access the web (you might be connected but behind a firewall)

Have you taken a look at Windows 11 x-lite?
If your as paranoid as you say, there's a version with all of the MS crap omitted from it.
I've used x-lite for a few years with never a problem

Yes, I'm aware that Microsoft provides an article to remove it. But it was my understanding that you will always have a minimum of 5GB of cloud OneDrive.

Are you saying that it is possible to delete that 5GB of cloud OneDrive and it is gone forever? Do you have a Microsoft account? Do you log in to it?
