Outlook 2019 wont delete posts

How are you getting on?
I'll stay online & sober for a while longer if you are going to ask any questions.
But if you've stopped for the day then so will I.

All the best,
Denis

I have looked all over but can't find the folder list as shown. Just different, I think. Will continue to look. PATH to pst files is what I need to be able to run the scan.
Also been doing some household duties after we got a new puppy.

You have right-clicked on Outlook today so I think you have not found the Folders view yet.

Please post a screenshot of your Outlook's left-hand pane - hopefully in Folder view but, if not, showing the icons at the bottom as I show in Step 1 of post #20.

I have assumed throughout that you have pst files in use in addition to the ost file you already know about. I assumed that because you said you were looking for them.

But if your Folder view looks like this
Outlook data files 1 - single file.png
with just a single high level entry with everything else indented within it [instead of the four trees I have] then you do not have any other Outlook data files in use i.e. your ost file is all you use and running ScanPST on it did not fix the problem.

And go back to your post #26, Edit it, delete the diagram.
It shows your email address.

You can copy this cleaned-up version of it into your post.

Me too; thought it was a sure thing. Wonder if it is because I am linked to Gmail on all 3 accounts. I do know that windows mail in win 11 uses the contact list in windows rather the contact list in Gmail. Oh, and no issues with windows mail except that I don't like it. Might even be able to direct it to use Gmail contact list; no, that would work too well.
Sorry, I digress.
So now what can I try. If you want to call this a night, fine with me. my head hurts. My birthday is in April and maybe MS will send me an injection of fresh brain matter!!!!!

Ok; I'm back. Took 3 days off. Had to catch up on some other items in my life.
So, I am going to try to look at this problem from a different angle. Keep in mind that this issue only occurs in 1 folder in all three accounts. My primary INBOX folder: I can manipulate any way I want everywhere else. I have had a look in RULES, but I see nothing odd comparing to other accounts and folders.
Any more ideas on this ongoing issue would be appreciated. Good thing I have Windows Mail up and running as a backup. As I said before, I just don't like it.

Ok; I'm back.
And I'm sober.
Will these coincidences never end?

I'll study the whole thread again.

Once thing I cannot see stated is how you have set your email retrieval up - POP3, IMAP or EAC.

You can look in Outlook Account settingsin the File menu.
My Outlook 2021 explicitly states POP/SMTP at the top of the Account information page before I even get to the details of the settings.

I don't know how to tell the difference in other Versions. My POP3 account settings are easily found in Outlook 2007
Account settings extract- pop.png
and I believe that IMAP equivalents include imap somewhere in those addresses.
In my Outlook 2021 those properties can be found in Control panel, [Large / Small icons view], Mail (32 bit) or Mail (Microsoft Outlook (32 bit) or similar, EMail accounts, Change [then read the data & cancel before you change anything accidentally.

The reason I am thinking about your email retrieval method is that one of your original symptoms [a delay in deleted items disappearing from your inbox] sounded to me like normal IMAP behaviour.

Do please note that my knowledge of IMAP extends as far as being able to spell it correctly.

And I've only just realised that checking your PST & OST file paths-filenames would also have been easier that way -
In my Outlook 2021 those properties can be found in Control panel, [Large / Small icons view], Mail (32 bit) or Mail (Microsoft Outlook (32 bit) or similar, Data files - and the list of PST-OST files is shown
[as is for me in Outlook 2007, Tools, Account settings, Data files because they hadn't started shuffling things around then].

All the best,
Denis

All 3 of my accounts show the same; IMAP/SMTP and have not changed since install.
My knowledge of IMAP is same as yours. When I added my accounts back in 2020 the install just did my Gmail accounts for me and have worked fine up to now. I did try Mailbird for a year prior but did not like it much.
Thanks for not giving up here!!

1 I think
can't seem to be able to erase posts as I go along. Or the erasure happens a couple of minutes later.
is IMAP behaviour. You do not delete anything, you mark it for deletion and it disappears when the account does its background re-sync with the server. This is called purging
Empty the Deleted Items folder in Outlook - MSSupport
This was also discussed in a thread that is no longer online [the MSA forum weeds old threads]. I've attached a PDF printout. Hal makes some comments that I think might help you [both Palcouk & Hal are very competent, I remember their names even though I have not been in that forum for six years].

2 I think / speculate that the moving problem
I am unable to move posts to another folder in Outlook
might be because you need to do something else in IMAP [to fully download the email***] before you can move it elsewhere. I'm concerned by your comment
All of a sudden
because, if my suggestion was correct, it should always have behaved that way.
*** See the explanation in What are IMAP and POP? - MSSupport

I'll nose around my folder of links to online articles about IMAP to see if any of them explain the situation.
[I don't think I have ever read any of them. I just notes their links in case I am ever forced to change from POP3.]

I couldn't find anything else that looked relevant. Perhaps there is something useful in
Microsoft Office and 365 - TenForums
www.slipstick.com - Diane P, who runs that site, is also highly competent.

Back sooner or later,
Denis

This sounds like the same issue that used to pop up in the old Windows Live Mail from time to time. I believe it is due to one particular message that has corrupted your inbox. Finding the right one takes a little work. Move the messages starting from oldest first one at a time. When you get to the one that won't move, it won't let you delete it either. You have to drag the offensive message to deleted items. Sometimes getting rid on one corrupt message is enough and you are able to manipulate the others at will. However, I have seen instances where all newer messages are also corrupt.

sooner or later is always fine. keep in mind that everything works fine including deletion in the other two accounts that are IMAP Gmail. In this version when i hover over a post, like this one, a cross turns red and it actually says DELETE next to it. I click the X and b=nothing.

I will have a look into my messages; I am one of those people who keep a clean email house. periodically throughout the day my inbox is totally empty; in the sub-folders I created properly I can, as I said, do what i want.
