Solved Paint Shop Pro 4.12 and 7.04 and 8.1 and 9.01


Thanks for the links folks. I have used PSP 5.01 for many years. I am curious as to why people on this thread mention v4, v7, v8 v9 but skip v5 entirely.
Did it have any shortcomings?. As far as I remember 5.0x was the first version built for win98...

the worst shortcoming I found with paint shop pro was that it was slower than molasses in January.

Well, just use something else in January, then go back to Paint Shop Pro for the other 11 months of the year.

This works PERFECT. Eternally grateful. Been using PsP 7.0 for decades (bought if for $100 in 2000) but that version could not save transparent png files, it could open but not save. Bought the horrid PSP 2021 (HATED it)

7.04 fixed that completely. Amazing, and thank you so so much. Its just for the things I want to do I don't need these monstrous sized, complex applications, PSP 7 does exactly what I want it do

I downloaded and mounted the iso file for PSP9.
I downloaded the installation instructions for PSP9.
It's not working for me.
The instructions say
1. Mount the ISO image.
2. Open the PSP9 folder, and open the Paint Shop Pro 9 folder.
3. Right click: Jasc Paint Shop Pro 9.msi ...and choose: Run as Administrator, to install Paint Shop Pro 9.
4. Open the PSP9 folder, and open the Animation Shop folder.
5. Right click: Jasc Animation Shop 3.msi ...and choose: Run as Administrator, to install Animation Shop 3.

After I mount the iso image there is no PSP folder.
There is only this:
autorun.ico
autorun.inf
autorun.tgt
licsence.rtf
page.bmp

What am I doing wrong?

Is 7 faster than nine? That's the only reason I was going for 9, but the read me instructions and are not exactly right for my computer. There is no run as administrator To be found when I get to that point.

PSP 9 tried to improve things, but they just made it harder.
That's why I stuck with PSP 7.04

@Bree runs PSP 7.04 as well.


This might help... the 2nd tutorial adds "Run as Administrator" to the context menu .msi files.
The 1st tutorial does it for all normal file types.

Thanks @Ghot. I'll Check it out later because right now I am working with a bucket of snakes. My aide is computer illiterate and I am trying to get her computer, laptop, to update. She has let it go past the point of no return (your computer is out of date) type stuff and so far I'm not getting it to update. I came to ask of the gurus here...
