Hi,

Is it possible to merge partition D with C, without getting any errors?

Having only 1st #3, I feel no logic in keeping a D partition (#4 and #5).

Yes it's doable.

1. If D: is empty... just delete it and move the recovery partition all the way to the right, then expand C: to use up the unallocated space.

2. If there is stuff ON the D: partition, move the stuff to the C: partition, then do #1

3. Or just leave them separate. C: being 174Gb is plenty big enough. Use D: for something else.

Thanks @Ghot , for the expert reply. (since I again have a Dell Diag run and than an option to check for a Recovery OS (which I hope to uncheck).

1. Correct D is empty.....Delete fine.
2. Recovery to C or to EFI System Partition?
3. Lastly an command prompts to check for?

NO.

No. 2 is wrong.
After you delete D: use Minitool Partition Wizard to "move" the recovery partition all the way to the right edge of the disk.
Make sure the recovery partition is still 809 MB after you move it.
This will leave a big 301 GB unallocated space, right next to C:.
Then you can resize C: to include the unallocated space.

I have a D: Data partition on all my machines with large enough drives. I make my Macrium Reflect system images there.
I then copy them to an external usb HDD too, just to be safe ;)

Windows won't let you touch that Recovery Partition, MiniTool will.

That's smart, BUT images can only be restored IF they are on a separate drive, not a separate partition.........am I correct?

I always create an image on an ext. HDD.

They CAN be restored from a separate partition, though most people put them on a separate drive.
That way, if the Windows drive dies... you don't lose your backups.

@Bree is just using a separate partition for a temporary storage spot, then he moves them to an external drive.

It all depends on what hardware your computer has to work with.
It "looks" like his three comps all have one big drive (internal) and then probably some massive external drive(s).
Backing up C: to another partition is much faster than backing up, straight to an external.


I think that's how the Breelanders (big and small) do things. :D

1. Turn off Bitlocker
2. Delete the D: partition
3. The slide (move) the 809 MB Recovery partition to the far right edge of Disk 1
4. That will leave you with a 301 GB unallocated space just to the right of the C: partition.
5. Right click C: and choose: Resize. Then expand C: to use the 301 GB of unallocated space.
6. Then you can re-enable Bitlocker.




Or... just leave everything the way it is, and do something like install games on D: or similar.

I have to clean install W11 anyways, since I got a reg error while Dell Diag was creating a Recovery OS which I cancelled 2 days back...…..can't access brave.com without adding DNS??

Oh there are a lot more than three, I've squeezed a 'System Three' and 'Four' into the Other Info section of my specs, and there's another different set of machines in my 10F specs :wink:

All mine are laptops with a single internal drive, if their drive is at least 250GB I will have a separate Data partition just for their Macrium system images. I find it convenient should I need to do a quick restore. No need to find any external backup drive, and I'll always have a system image with me wherever I take the laptop.

Of course, for security should the drive ever fail I also copy the system images from each laptop to a large external HDD. Currently a 2TB one is sufficient to hold system images of all my machines.

During a clean install I shouldn't resize.....correct. :confused:

If you can fix the reg error would save me from a clean install. ;-)
