This is getting very weird on this computer. "Choose another app" doesn't open when I click on it.

FWIW I opened up task manager and tried both of those, and neither one of them opened a new process.

I just thought of something, I did a fix to get the original right click menu to show, pretty sure I got it here. Anyway, maybe that's what caused this.

Edit* I got that registry file from here, and I just ran the one that reverses it, but no luck. Still can click on a pick to open it.

This is ridiculous, now the Windows Photo Viewer has stopped working. The option is still there, but selecting it doesn't do anything.,
NONE of the photo options work now. I can't open photos, period.

I'm sorry to keep mucking this up, but i'm just posting what's going on. Now that it's reverted, if I select more options, the photo viewer works, but not if I just right click and select open with.

I can't seem to get the admin terminal. I'm pressing ctrl/shift + delete, and it's not working. Doesn't work in windows powershell, either.

Nevermind that, I got it. It's running. :)

the scan finished, but now it's at SFC /ScanNow... is it completed, or should I hit enter or something?

I decided to run sfc /Scannow and it successfully repaired some files.

Still doesn't work when I click on pictures, but it got it to where the open with prompt works the first time.
The "choose another app to open with" still doesn't work.

So I went into the Microsoft Photos and ran the reset, which didn't work.
Then I ran the Repair, which didn't work.
Then I selected Uninstall, and now of course the photos don't open up with a mouse click.

I found a walkthrough on uninstalling Microsoft Photos and then reinstalling it.
The reinstall actually worked, but still no luck with mouse clicking a photo to open it.

Has anyone here ran into this before after doing a Revo ununstall of OneDrive? It's the only thing I can think of that would cause such a major complication with a simple file structure.

You may have to go to Defaults, and re-associate those files with... Photos.
Just type Defaults in the Taskbar search box.


I usually scroll down and pick: "Choose defaults by file type".

There's a long list of photo file types in there, and none of them let me click on them.

This is what I see, and i've gone in there multiple times after changing something to see if I have access, but nothing so far has worked.

Scroll down to say... .jpg and .png (or whatever file types your images are)
Click the little arrow box on the right and choose your App. MS Photos?
And click on Set Default.



This list is from Paint Shop Pro 7.04, but it will give you an idea of most of the image types...
MS Photos probably won't be able to open all these.

I don't see anything like that. Is that supposed to be on the bottom of the default apps page?
I realize you're talking about that arrow box, but i've clicked on more than 50 of those of various file types and none of them are active.

Oh, and i've already tried irfanview and it didn't work either.

irfan didn't work either. i've tried a couple of programs in the middle of all this, and there's not a single instance where I can double click a photo to open it.
I'm becoming more and more sure that this happened as a result of removing OneDrive with Revo uninstaller.
If anything restores my access, it's probably going to be some sort of setting, not an application.

Then it might be time to try these...

Open a Command Prompt as Admin and run... sfc /scannow

Do the same for this command... Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth



And if that doesn't fix it... then I would try an In-Place Upgrade.

Thanks, the Dism cleanup/restore did it! It's not opening up to Windows Photo Viewer, but I'm not even going to mess with it past this point.
:giggle:

Edit* of all the things to fail, this was a deal breaker. If it had been an extra step to open up various sub folders I would have learned to deal with it. But photos? That's a deal breaker.
