Solved Pin Windows Update to Start Menu

When I create a shortcut for a program and slip that shortcut into the ProgramData ... Programs folder, it immediately appears in my All apps list. I can't understand why that isn't happening for you. You said the desktop shortcut works. Did you try moving that desktop shortcut into the ProgramData ... Programs folder?

I have an idea: maybe there's a conflict between your pinned shortcut in the Start Menu, and your attempt to put the shortcut into your All apps list.

Please try this: Create the desktop shortcut first. Then open Start and UNpin the shortcut for that program. Then open the folder
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs and drag the desktop icon into it. Choose Copy here.

Now check your All apps. It should be there.

Now go back to the desktop shortcut you copied into the folder, right-click, and choose Pin to Start.

If that doesn't give you a pinned shortcut and an All apps shortcut, I have no other ideas at present.

I don't believe it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It worked this time!!:) Maybe I didn't do it properly before but whatever, I want to thank you guys for all the help and that you didn't give up. Really appreciate it.

Glad you finally got it all fixed. You might want to create some folders in Programs and move some individual app shortcuts into those folders. The only individually listed apps you have to have in All apps are the ones MS won't let you do anything with (like Microsoft Store and Snipping Tool). In my images above, I placed an app shortcut in Programs to show you how to do it. After I had posted my pictures for you, I removed that app shortcut and placed it in one of my folders. Makes for a shorter apps list and makes it easier to locate apps when they're no spread out all over the place alphabetically. Just one way of doing things for you to consider.

I don't know if it works in Win 11 but you can use Win Aero WinX Menu editor. I haven't tried it on Win 11 but worst is it won't work.
You can add a program to the Win X menu.



Just create a group and then choose add a program.
