Playing iTunes = Death

I refuse to use any thing that has to do with Apple.

Well I'm 45 minutes into playing iTunes and no crash yet.

Is it possible the scannow fixed whatever conflict there was?

Gonna let it go for a while. If I can't replicate the crash, I'm going to call it good for now.

Appreciate the help so far - thanks everyone!

The spontaneous BSOD had not created dump files.

WDV would be useful in stress testing the non-Microsoft drivers.

OK, I spoke too soon. iTunes triggered the crash.

Here's the V2 report. Have to go offline for a while, will try WDV later. Printed out all the instructions, coz I'm old school.

In the meantime, what's the difference between "Test all non-MSFT drivers" and "Test no MSFT drivers"? Seems like two ways to say same thing?

There are drivers used for hardware and software that almost always are the cause of BSOD.

Those are the non-Microsoft drivers.

The Windows drivers or Microsoft drivers are frequently named while debugging as the cause of BSOD.
However they rarely ever cause BSOD. (Microsoft will perform Windows updates with Window insider feedback.)

When possible start WDV.

It's started. (As an aside - my Mozilla Firefox crashed twice and took forever to load its homepage coming out of this reboot. Coincidence or connection?)

Per @x BlueRobot 's detailed (thank you!) post, I selected everything that was NOT MSFT, but also included the four listed in step four. I did not have any prefixed "hiber", BTW.

If there is no immediate BSOD then post a verifier /querysettings share link.

For any BSOD post a new V2 share link into the newest post.

As I said, I selected everything that was not an MSFT driver (that wasn't also "dump"). None of those you listed were available options.

Note @x BlueRobot 's instructions and the one you posted differ on which settings to select in "Driver Verifier Manager", but it doesn't seem change whether or not those Apple Drivers list.

The symptoms changed this time around. In prior instances, everything froze. This time:
  • My screen came back with the touchpad, but it took a bit
  • The "frame" iTunes software came onscreen, but the list of songs playing, graphics, etc. did NOT
  • My Taskbar was gone
  • I could not Alt+Tab to other applications, only between iTunes (such as it was) and a black screen
  • I did not power off, I was able to get into Task Manager and reboot
Upon reboot, I noticed many of my desktop icons are facacte. For example, what should be a ZIP folder looks like a blank document. Tried to post a screenshot, but my snipping tool is freezing up (effect of Verifier?).

Also, my keyboard is lagging in fits and starts.

Here is the post-reboot V2 file. I'm turning off Verifier to keep working today.

Looking forward to more advice!

* Interestingly, the V2 ZIP file I *just* created appears correct; it's the others on my Desktop whose icons look like blank documents.

I've tried foobar and didn't dig it. I use iTunes to listen to music (duh) and manage playlists on iPods. Not iPhones or iPads, iPods. Looks like CTM only does photos.

(Curious - how is iTunes "invasive"?)

CTM manages music on both iPods and iPhones.

IIRC, iTunes installs at least one component (Bonjour) that's always in memory and uses a lot of system resources while it's running.

I usually disable Bonjour after every update - I think it's only there so Apple devices can talk to each other? Which I don't need. I just need the music.

There are many methods to use the WDV tool.
Right. Those instructions seemed geared more for Win 10 than 11. Do I need to reconfigure and run again? Did anyone learn anything from the last batch of V2? (I don't know how to read the results). Or is this some glitch between iTunes and the newest Windows build and I'm the first to dig into it?

It is now 6:55 PM.

I've got to attend to other matters now and will return later.

See if you can use the WDV tool to create a crash with these customized tests:

Code:
[ ] 0x00000010 I/O verification.
[ ] 0x00000080 DMA checking.
[ ] 0x00000200 Force pending I/O requests.
[ ] 0x00000400 IRP logging.
[ ] 0x00002000 Invariant MDL checking for stack.
[ ] 0x00004000 Invariant MDL checking for driver.

Then try this group of customized tests:

Code:
[ ] 0x00008000 Power framework delay fuzzing.
[ ] 0x00010000 Port/miniport interface checking.
[ ] 0x00040000 Systematic low resources simulation.
[ ] 0x00200000 NDIS/WIFI verification.
[ ] 0x00800000 Kernel synchronization delay fuzzing.
[ ] 0x01000000 VM switch verification.

"Disrupted" seems harsh...?

OK, this is weird. I turned off Verifier - and my icons were all fine again. I turned it back on and they're all messed up - except for the NEW V2 report and the LAST V2 report. XLS, PDF, ZIP - all icons appear as blank docs. JPGs appear OK - i.e., thumbnails. (Actually, *one* XLS icon is OK, the rest are "blanks".) The files are AOK, just the Desktop icons.

Anyway, here's the results of the first batch of tests. Attached is the querysettings and this is the V2 link.

Thanks for your time.
