Here's the problems with cloud storage.
Number 1 rule of computer security is don't allow people to access your computer.
Along comes cloud storage, and people put their important data on other people's computers. Really dumb.
No matter what they promise, they can get to your data, encrypted or not.
Hell, hackers can do it over the internet... you don't think they can do it... in house?
There's a huge monetary reason for large companies to offer cloud storage.
They have access to billions of people's data, which they can sell, for free. Well for the cost of the server.
Just take one instance. Photographers sell their pics to magazines, websites, companies of all types.
With cloud storage, the companies that own those servers can sell any of your pics they want, and they don't have to pay for them as they would with a photographer.
Granted not all your pics will be of the required quality. BUT... they have access to billions of people's pics.
And that's just one job skill.
How many scientists and engineers store their stuff in the cloud. Actually... probably none. LOL
I wonder why?
There's only one real reason to spend the money to build servers, to act as other folks storage. It's to be able to access, the stuff that's being stored.
Sure you can tell OneDrive what to sync or not sync... but it doesn't ASK.
It just starts syncing everything and the onus in on YOU to tell it what not to sync.
It should be the other way around.
Cloud storage is the equivalent of saying: "here, hold my beer", and not expecting that person to take a few sips, on a scalding hot summer day.
