Well.. 4 bucks down the drain, no loss. I'll wait until Sept and just get a new PSU with a new warranty and I know the cables will match

I lost the ones that came with it.

Look on EB, some will sell them as the PSU died.

Ah that explains it then, the PSU end can be different plugs and using say a Corsair lead in an EVGA might damage something, probably safer with the splitter. If your luck is anything like mine as soon as you fit the lead the proper one will magically re-appear!

Edit:

Just had a thought have you got the GPU yet as some actually come with the splitter lead.

This appears to be the modular layout for your PSU:



Looking at the manual, the "VGA" port supports an 8 pin (actually 6+2) PCI-e power connector. The adapters you list won't plug into anything, I believe.

However, there are other options. Like a Molex to 6 pin PCI-E adapter.

You could replace the whole PSU at Newegg for $55.51 plus tax (free shipping). There are a number of offers from third-party sellers at the moment, but they're all crooks ($50 shipping).

There is no standard for modular PSU pin-outs even between PSUs from the same brand. Use cables other than those supplied with the PSU at your peril.

Poor advice since there is no cabling standard for PSUs

As with any mass produced product, there is a need for a set quality level - and this is usually set at a level below the absolute optimum so by using the "standard" cable you may get a perfect item or you may get a lesser item. This does not mean that you will get an item that cannot do the job it was designed for.

If you want to push the performance of a PSU or the connected GPU then a specialist cable will "raise the Bar", it should ensure that the bottom point in the performance curve is higher than the Default standard so the system will end up more reliable when pushed.

One other thing with cables it pays to look at getting a specific cable length one that fits the available space this makes the system tidy but also more efficient. a Standard PSU will come with a cable set to suit a wide range of installations - custom cables can provide an optimum cable set designed to carry more current

Also of course these special cables are available in many colours, to suit your build

Also the specialist suppliers will offer cables to specifically fit your particular PSU and GPU (or other device)

With all due respect, I fail to see where the bad advice is? pparks is certainly right there, and I've certainly done just that without issue. I've used both cable replacements and extensions from companies like NZXT and others without issue on my EVGA power supplies.

Like anything, you just need to stay away from cheap stuff and make sure you get the right tool for the right job - in this case don't use a CPU EPS cable for a GPU cable. And yes, insure the cable properly fits the item(s) its attached to.

Many custom PC builders use third party cable replacements without issue. Remember, there is a market for that.

All that said, EVGA does sell replacement cables though prices might be a little higher then others making the same cables. I myself bought an all black cable replacement kit from them for $90 bucks. I bought the kit for a consistent cleaner look, not fear of the other cables causing problems - the original cables for the PS came with red GPU cables, which I hated, so I was using black NZXT extension cables until I bought the black kit about a year later.

I guess that i could have been more clear.

With a standard old school, non modular power supply the cables are physically attached to the power supply itself. Obviously there isn't anything you can add, except for say maybe an adapter to change a molex to something else. For these reasons, I would assume the OP is talking about a newer modular power supply.

I wasn't clear, but YES you can use a different cable from what your power supply mfg supplies. Maybe it wasn't obvious enough, but the cable pin outs and connectors would have to be the same on BOTH ends of the cable. Therefore, since I use a Seasonic Power supply, I would have to know for sure that it's an 8 pin PCI Express cable that has the right connection to plug into my modular Seasonic PSU as well as the video card.

Also common, is that people will continue to use their manufacturer supplied cables, and then connect them to a sleeved cable to change the aesthetic look of where it hooks into the video card and is viewable through a side glass panel. Those cables obviously don't have to come from a manufacturer of your power supply.

Those splitters can be dicey jeff.

What is dicey about it is that it splits what is coming from the CPU port on the PSU and splits it into two PCI-E cables. The current/power draw from one PCI-E cable would be OK for sure, but you are doubling the possible load at the PSU connector and on the shared 12v circuits in the cable. If you draw a lot on the GPU, it could exceed the spec of the shared wires and the connector, possibly melt the connector or cable, possibly start a fire. and damage your other components. It is like connecting a power strip into a power strip - you can overwhelm the connection at the first power strip.

Always best practice to use two independent PCI-E cables to the PSU.

It could be all-right and it might not be depending on the conscruction and how much power you GPU draws. But here is the rule of thumb - if the they added the expense of the two connectors on the GPU, it is because one connector and cable can't handle the total power draw, but you are funneling it all down to 1 PSU connector and one cable.

Yup.. I have the correct power cable coming in with the graphic card so that thing will hit the parts bin when it arrives

It only cost about 4 bucks... so.. not an issue.
