ram usage will become 100% over time
I boot up in Safe Mode, then reset to normal mode and ram use will be at 20% with no apps running
usually the computer is on most of the day running apps and games with no issues and is shut down each day.
when the computer is restarted, RAM in use will increase approximately 3 or 4 percent until it reaches 100%
The only way to free up the RAM is to boot up in Safe Mode, then it gradually fills up again
I have scanned for viruses several times with "BitDefender" but nothing found.

But do you have issues when running programs when the RAM usage changes? Windows normally will use as much RAM as needed and when programs start to suffer is the time to change the Virtual Memory/paging file setting or get more physical RAM installed or both.

My first computer, in '92, had 4MB RAM and a 120MB HDD, first upgrade was to 16MB RAM when Wordperfect started having issues with 7 or 8 pages of text.

What you are describing sounds like a memory leak. This is where an app or driver has a bug such that it fails to release memory correctly when it is closed, or has finished using it.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

I hope all my RAM is in use as it can be 100 times faster than paged memory! Unused RAM is just a waste.

Malware on it...
Many times, Malware files are disguised as legitimate files.

Or, there may be a backdoor and someone is using your PC to produce Bitcoins, for example!


Backup your things and reinstall windows!

Checkup what apps are you installing and giving permissions!

Or you can try Stinger!

It will do scan and clean. It doesn´t do protection, just scan and clean.

The next time there's a sharp continual increase in RAM usage, use the Details pane in Task Manager to see which apps are running and how much memory they're using. Keep monitoring Details to track which apps' memory utilization keeps rising.
There are a lot of apps that suffer from memory leaks, where RAM they use is not released properly. Browsers like Chrome are vulnerable to this from misbehavng extensions or add-ons. I've even noticed memory leaks with certain versions of Adobe's PDF reader in the past.
