RDC NOT WAKING UP PC FROM SLEEP

OS
Windows 11
Here are some relevant details:-
PC- HP G5 800 mini, i5-9500
Windows version- Windows 11 pro 24H2
NIC- Intel 1219-LM

I have been having this issue only since yesterday. Whenever I try to wake up my pc from sleep using the windows app on my macbook or iphone, it shows an error. I bought this refurbished PC a week ago and it was working fine before this. I know that it's not a hardware issue because I can wake up the PC using the Wolow app. And, I also have an HP G4 800 mini which is fully updated and waking up smoothly, so I know the issue is specific to the G5. Haven't checked the NIC model on the G4 yet though...

The RDC connection is working smoothly without any issues when the pc is awake. The problem starts only when it goes to sleep. I am using it as a headless pc just to run softwares that I otherwise wouldn't be able to run on my mac. And I like the convenience of waking up the pc simply from the windows app itself as soon as I log into the remote session, instead of waking up the pc from the wolow app first and then accessing the pc on windows app.

I have tried installing a clean copy of windows 11 pro, and the windows app was able to wake up the pc for a while, before I updated the NIC driver directly from the intel website.

If anyone have any solution for this, please let me know! Thanks in advance :)

So are you saying one WoL application works and another does not? Also do you mean via RPC on not RDC? Most WoL applications use a magic packet to wake a system which has nothing to do with RPC

Sorry for the lack of clarity. By rdc I meant the native windows Remote Desktop Connection utility. So basically I can wake up the pc using wol app, but not Remote Desktop using the official Windows app on iOS and macos app stores.

Roger that. If you're referring to the native RDP client I am fairly certain it doesn't have WoL capabilities. Some third party clients might.

Correct. RDP does not send a WOL to the machine to which it is trying to connect.

So, I guess the question now is this: Is the machine in question going to sleep before attempting to connect via RDP? Does RDP connect successfully if the machine is not sleeping?

The five 8TB drives and three 512GB SSDs are part of a DrivePool using StableBit DrivePool software. The three SSDs are devoted purely to caching for the 8TB drives. All of the important data is stored in triplicate so that I can withstand simultaneous failure of 2 disks.

Well idk what kind of tech it uses, but it does wake up a sleeping PC and I am very sure of that, since I have an HP G4 800 mini that I use as a server PC too, running on windows 11 pro, and the native RDP client wakes it up from sleep very smoothly. Also, I just checked and the HP G4 has the same NIC as the G5.

Essentially I can just set the G5 to never sleep, but I really don't wanna do that to protect the internal components.

RDP does connect to the machine when it is not sleeping, yes. But right after a clean install of windows 11 pro on the machine, I was also able to wake it up from sleep using the native RDP client for a while, before it stopped waking the machine up yet again. Also, as I mentioned above, I use another HP G4 800 Mini as a server PC which has the same NIC on it's board, and RDC wakes it up from sleep really smoothly.
