Samsung NVMe SSD fake or real?

I tested my Samsung NVMe SSD 500GB with CrystalDiskMark and it had read 2971 and write 2147 MB/s. When I look in Samsung Magician the other two Samsung SSDs show a serial number and the word Genuine but the NVMe SSD has no serial number and no Genuine word. I suspect that means that it's a fake drive, right?

Samsung claims 3100/2600 MBps read/write, so the performance you're seeing isn't bad.

The reviews on the link say that it has an issue with Magician.

In Samsung Magician the other two Samsung SSDs show a serial number and the word Genuine but the NVMe SSD has no serial number and no "Genuine" word.
Then IMHO it is fake or broken.

Apparently, the drive may be incompatible with Magician. (It's an old PCI-E 3 model.)
Possibly . I have a 990 4TB NVME that was made in Vietnam and it passed all of the Magician tests, Thailand is not the only country that Samsung uses.

All this fakery had me scrambling to check if I've gotten any fake drives after buying 6 990 Pro NVMe drives over the last 6 months, 4 in one buy. Happy to say they're all genuine. Even my Samsung 870 EVO SATA I bought a month ago, checked out genuine per Samsung Magician.

Another reason why I try to avoid Amazon's 3 party markets and stick with "shipped by / sold by Amazon" where possible. But yeah, that's Amazon, plenty of other vendors sell these products, and you have to watch them as well.

I found that Magician only shows the serial number for internal SSDs. It shows all 0's if the SSD is external.

You can use CrystalDiskInfo to show the serial numbers for internal and external SSDs.

You could also try to register the SSD on the Samsung website. You can't register it unless the serial number is valid. Here is what it shows for one of my SSDs that I registered:

Note you have to use the serial number on the SSD itself. The one on the box is not complete.

I have two Samsung 1TB 980 M.2 NVMe SSDs.

Does it show what firmware version it is using?

Did you check with Hard Disk Sentinal, if the serienumber could be read out?

The SN matches the one on the SSD.

I registered another SSD and it worked but the new 980 SSD doesn't.

Looks like a real one, the controller on the chip looks real and in the right place; The Samsung SSD 980 (500GB & 1TB) Review: Samsung's Entry NVMe
Also have read cases where samsung magicial did not recognize there (real)own products. (Could not read out there own controller not all oem or enterpice are supported by that software.),

Can you try to read out serienumber with Hard Disk Sentinal
This is what it looks beneath the sticker.
