I Cannot Boot Into Windows 11 On An ASUS Laptop PC's NVMe SSD After Removing And Reinstalling The Drive. Why?

Yeahbut as one of my HS teachers said long ago. Is this Linux capable? I bet it has the legacy option but we will check that in a bunch of minutes...!

Oh, hey, at some point when you're booting press F8 and keep tapping it after you reboot and see if you get anything. I don't know what F that uses but my asus mobo uses F8.

Okay , do you have a bootable USB stick that you could plug in, boot, if you get that same BIOS screen, F7, BOOT, add... and see if anything there inside box, if so, add it and boot to it just to test.

Disable the VMD controller. VMD is the new term for "RAID". Although it doesn't say so, disabling VMD will put the
computer in AHCI mode. Your drive should be recognized once it's disabled.

1) do you have a win11 (24H2) iso on a bootable stick? I would guess no.
2) so lets do something else first - please go to ADVANCED / USB configuration

Are you asking if I was given by ASUS a bootable USB stick when I purchased this PC for this PC. No. I was never given one. ASUS solution to this is as you recall from the UEFI BIOS Main Screen is a option called Cloud Recovery. I used it once when I had trouble shortly after I bought the PC. That takes about 7 or so hours all my itself and restores your PC to new condition that is functional. That appears to be the only way to get out of this jam. Then I thought there was a time limit on how long that feature is available free after you buy the PC. I am sure there is a cost to use it now as it is now out of warranty. Anyways, I want to reuse the Windows 11 stored on the NVMe already as it has software installed on it that I paid for. Any ideas on how to fix this issue?

The bootloader is independent of uefi/legacy bios.

You can still use the older text based boot loader if you wish. Some prefer it as it actually loads faster than the graphical bootloader.

On another pc, install Macrium Reflect (trial version will work), and create a usb rescue drive.

Then boot from it and select "fix windows boot problems".

This rebuilds the bcd from scratch and fixes most boot issues.

I believe the problem is that from the factory, ASUS uses it's own boot loader to bootstrap the BCD. You can do that but you may have to re-license the win (or leave it unlicensed and not be able to customize the taskbar.

My path with this is to show customer legacy, smart, try cloud, build own on larger NVMe and deal with drivers, license, etc. I have done this with laptops and it can be a pita.

    Been doing computers since '62(IBM 7070/4(just missed their 650!!!). Managed a bunch of 360's. Okay, nice to meet you Scott! I tried disabling the VMD controller, I Saved Changes and Exit, rebooted the PC, but still brought me back to UEFI BIOS again. No Windows 11 booting. Is there something I am still missing? Thanks!

Krism, playing catch up with these messages. I do have a bootable USB stick for Windows 11. I have a 22H2, a 23H2, and a 24H2 USB flash drives. Try that? What do you want me to do? Please tell me. They were created on my own separate from this PC.

It is not just a bootable USB drive for Windows 11, but the full package for installation too for all 3 of my Windows 11 USB drives
