I just downloaded the registry addition (Add "Turn off display" Context Menu in Windows 11) that adds the option to the context menu. However, my laptop has S0 (modern standby) and when I use this, it puts the whole computer to sleep.

Is there an edit I can make to the registry file to only put the monitor to sleep and not the whole computer?

When asking for help and receiving it, out of respect for the people that do make an effort to help and make suggestions, the least we can do is review what has been suggested.

If you took the time to investigate the suggestion given, you would find that this program is command line and run as a standalone software. It does not require installation.

This utility is a standalone executable, and it doesn't require any installation process or additional DLLs. just copy the executable to any folder you want, and run it with the desired command-line option, according to your needs.
It's recommended to copy the executable of NirCmd (nircmd.exe) to your windows directory, or to any other folder listed in your PATH environment variable, so you won't need to type the full path of nircmd in each time that you want to use it.
Starting from version 1.50, console version of NirCmd (nircmdc.exe) is also available. In the console version, all error messages goes to the console window, instead of using a message box.

I could not tell you if this software would work.

you just contradicted yourself... in multiple ways.
short answer to OP is, there is only 1 way and that would do it natively, and that is to set a powercfg setting manually via command prompt. but going less than 1 minute (shortest time allowable) requires restarting the pc, which is a moot point based on your request.

Ah yeah. But I looking for a way to keep the timer in windows to let windows shut the monitor off, but the ability to do it myself if I feel like I just want the screen blank (privacy).

I figured if Windows can do it, its just gotta be a command or something. Looking at the event long, there are "modes" or something that windows tracks. Thought maybe the file was created during a time before S0 state and Windows can sometimes change those event IDs to mean different things from version to version.

I was hoping maybe the creator of the context file would maybe be able to shed some light on it. I've used his stuff across multiple computers and his work is awesome!

Shawn, I downloaded the Screen Off (Context Menu) registry file. but when I use it, it makes the computer "sleep" as well. I have S0 enabled, and prefer it so is there a workaround or edit I can make to the registry file for making this registry edit work like the "screen off timer" in windows (aka just shuts the monitor off and not put the computer to sleep)?

The display going off is what initiates S0 Modern standby.
If you do not want S0 Modern standby to kick in then you must keep the screen on.

I used to achieve this by keeping the display on [power options, turn display off - never] but showing a completely blank screensaver when I chose. That keeps S0 Modern standby at bay.
All it needs is a shortcut to your chosen .scr file.

To help with your investigations, you can see records of transitions between power states such as S0 Modern standby in Event logs.
See

[But note that the abbreviation I used in that post, S0ix, should not have been used].

Unfortunately, this only works on hardware that supports DDC/CI.

Although I haven't tested it either, I am fairly confident that this will still trigger Modern Standby, as these kinds of small programs are a dime a dozen, and they really do not bring anything new to the old Modern-Standby-table. As a matter of fact, writing such a program that still triggers it is just another piece of cake, see: Add "Turn off display" Context Menu in Windows 11

Unfortunately, this only works on hardware that supports DDC/CI.
i know it says that, but i used to have a setup with 3 Samsung C24F390 curved monitors and they do not support DDC/CI and it still worked with them.

I have absolutely no idea how it could still be able to work without using DDC/CI. On my Sony TV it doesn't list any VCP features at all; it just shows an empty list, and it also shows an error code 31 (in red) on its status bar.

wish i could tell ya.. but i have no clue. i know for a fact those monitors do NOT support it. there are many threads all over complaining about it, but my script to turn off the outside 2 via ControlMyMonitors and activate my screen saver on only the middle monitor worked just fine.

It sleeps with-in a sec or so. Using the windows built in timers does not. I have the timers set for 3 minutes on battery and 5 minutes on A/C. Both battery and A/C act the same way by using the context menu.

As an alternative, you can try the context menu version below instead to see if it may work better for you. Be sure to remove this context menu before using the one below.

I have absolutely no idea how it could still be able to work without using DDC/CI. On my Sony TV it doesn't list any VCP features at all; it just shows an empty list, and it also shows an error code 31 (in red) on its status bar.
forgot to post back. so for the samsung monitors that do not have DDC/CI, this batch works to turn them off (without invoking any sleep)
Code:
echo off
cmd.exe /C
controlmymonitor.exe /SetValue \\.\DISPLAY2\Monitor0 D6 4

i know it says that, but i used to have a setup with 3 Samsung C24F390 curved monitors and they do not support DDC/CI and it still worked with them.

Uhhh, this post might shed a bit of light on your monitors:

However in Linux, ddcutil says the monitor is in the database but DDC/CI is not active. While I agree it's not active, it should be possible to activate it. And in Linux I don't know what I'm doing with this one. Hope you can help. From what little I've managed to follow here's some output.

Seems it actually was supposed support DDC/CI. And that user was able to use SoftMCCS (which I also have) and a DDC app to control it.
