Solved Sendto function broken in Windows 11 24H2


I thought that they were showing great restraint to be honest.

You need to reset your defaults, the Mail recipient protocol has to run as a generic (so to speak) RunDLL, based on your default client.
The appearance should be the default...

Also, what does your default indicate in the Registry under Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Clients\Mail ?

Until I went into Thunderbirds settings (The OP’s preferred email client) as in my screenshot earlier, and told it to check to see if it was the default mail app, it tried attaching stuff to Outlook 2021.
I asked Thunderbird to check if it was the default mail app, rebooted, job done. I didn’t have to make any other changes, at all. Now my attachments automatically go to Thunderbird.

That doesn’t account for anything buggy though. But for me there was zero effort with zero follow up.

And I am wondering if they’ve been messing with the send to registry entries. If you look at their first post, the image shows the Context Menu Send To, empty

I would have thought this impossible without making changes. Mine has a handful of default locations (the rest customised)

But what about the entries like Send to Bluetooth, Send to Desktop, Compressed (Zipped) Folder etc. They should be in that context menu send to as well. By default? They are in mine.

I don’t know why people mess with registry settings. Nothing to say a previous registry hack hasn’t screwed things up.

I'm not sure if the OP messed with any reg settings, but, somehow they created a false Thunderbird designate!

Actually, all the OP needs to do is delete that Thunderbird MAPI in the sendto folder and create a new default one...,
Just create a new text Document, rename it Mail recipient.MAPIMail, Done! It's magic! :wink:
(OP will probably still have to reset their defaults though)

Not saying you are wrong, but Send to “Mail Recipient” should still be there regardless that it isn’t working with Thunderbird. I can’t see why it wouldn’t be.

Seriously? He claimed "Sendto function broken in Windows 11 24H2!" where it is not, it might be broken in his setup but not in 24H2 generally as he stated hence why i stated it's working for me, soon to be followed by others who reinforced that.

Half of the answers had nothing to do with the question. One answer claimed that Microsoft did this on purpose to make us use Outlook 😃

You don't need to do anything with registry settings, I simply deleted all options from the appdata....\Sendto folder to see what it does with mailrecipient. I haven't changed anything in the registry

Nope, these options can be simply deleted from the relevant Sendto folder.

Sorry, I did not mean it does not work with everybody, it does not work on my PC, although I DID NOT mess with registry at all.
