My current working box is X99-E based. I managed to fry the original CPU (5930 @ 4.5GHz!) when the AIO water cooler became self aware & started breeding a sticky gunge that blocked it's arteries. It currently sports a 16 core Xeon with a Noctua fan.
This was built in 2014 hence time for a new build!

Yup. Originally I ran a 6850K in my X99E build back in 2014 but I found this hex core to be problematic and exchanged it for the 8 core 6900K X series CPU. To this day I don't understand why Intel included this K chip in the X series but they did. This move made a world of difference and the chip is very stable @ 4 GHz so I really didn't lose any speed making this exchange.

Since you're already acquainted with Noctua coolers I don't have to elaborate on how quiet the fans are. Water cooling might look impressive but I still think in the long run air cooling is more reliable and safer. That case has excellent air flow so it would be perfect for air cooling. Of course, the choice is entirely your own. In either case it looks like you're off to a great start. :-)

I have one, that is the rear of the case on the left? I don’t know if it’s just me but I think you have that fan backwards (upside down)
The fans should be pointed to the metal grills (which they are) into the direction of the rear of the case for proper circulated airflow. So from right to left: Fan/Grill/Fan/Grill/Rear of Case

I'm already impressed. And what a great choice for a cooler! Those dual tower heat sinks are amazingly cool. Are you thinking about putting another one on those fins? I've made triple shot guns like that before on the NH-D15 and they work very, very well. I'm also wondering if you're using ECC RAM with that XEON.

The RAM is ECC. As for cooling my only concern is the W790 chipset. This gets very hot & the heatsink is just a sliver of aluminium & it's covered by my GPU's!

I can see why cooling is such a concern for you. I also noticed that you have the south bridge heat sink circled. Is that south bridge? South bridge gone north? lol Yeah, those heat sinks aren't really the best. I'm wondering if there are kits for that so you could repaste it and give it some copper or something a bit more robust. You could also put a mini fan on it to blow through the fins. I'm certain that one the reasons my LSI/BROADCOM/AVAGO expansion cards have lasted so long is due to the mini fans that I added to the cards. While I'm on the subject does that system board also feature PLX technology? I apologize in advance for the questions but now you have me curious.

No PLX tech on board. I'm trying to source a very slim fan to mount on the heatsink.

I gathered as much. I was just wondering why you had that heatsink highlighted in the picture. It is also possible to cannibalize old PCI cards such as old graphics cards for the fan. I know those types of heatsinks aren't the best but they do work well when you blow a little direct air over them. I know it makes a difference because I ran with and without and I couldn't even touch the heatsink without burning my fingers without the fan. With the fan I could grasp the entire card with my finger on the heatsink and it was only warm. The fans I use came from ASUS and they are very small and quiet. They are the type used in the old Sabertooth/Haswell platforms. I pulled mine from a defective board and essentially got them for free.

They also have water blocks for North/South bridge chip sets. It isn't an option I would use but it's there. Your system is not exactly standard EATX but I still love it. I'm not sure what sort of clearance you would have behind your Graphics card so perhaps HDMI has offered a viable solution to this problem howbeit riser cables are not without their own issues. I try to avoid them as much as possible. There is also this option from ThermalRight → HR-05-SLI NORTH BRIDGE They provide tables to check compatibility but this heat sink is specially designed for systems running more than one graphics card and it is angled to get around most of them. Just changing the TIM and moving to copper alone should make a big difference but this might be worth looking into.

The riser cables are no good for SLI connected GPU's & that ThermalRight cooler is obsolete.
There is 7 mm from the top of the heatsink to the GPU case, not a lot to play with!
A custom solution is called for!

Considering that SLI already runs with a built in compromise I might well imagine that running both cards on extensions would result in some drop in performance. Admittedly, I've never done this so I'm out of depth on this matter. I did notice that the ThermalRight cooler is obsolete but that does NOT necessarily mean that it can't be had. Personally, I've never comprehended the necessity for SLI. For me, it has always seemed a bit of a waste. I realize there are some specialized environments where SLI can be of some benefit, but for the most part it isn't required and can introduce a whole lot of new problems to the system. IMO it is more trouble than it is worth. That said I'm compelled to ask, "Why do you need SLI?" You have a very new system board capable of executing so many extra operations and applications. I recall having a similar debate regarding this very question with someone who made a valid point but this was due to the fact that they were running SLI on a rather dated system. These days I hardly think it is necessary. But that's just my opinion. Please inform me as I am curious. Does your PC do a lot of number crunching?

Two answers due here:

1. Riser cables: case has provision to securely mount only one dual slot GPU. I did look at this option some time ago.
2. Northbridge cooler would not fit due to layout of board, it's very dense around the chipset.

SLI, I use my box as a workstation with CAD for dense assemblies. I also have a P100 to fit & this perform computations with MATLAB & a physics package. As they all have the Pascal chip I can use one Nvidia driver set & use the P5000's for graphics & the P100 for computation.

Did consider a new GPU but the cost was astronomical & my two P5000's (bought for under £500!) work fine.
