Solved Snipping Tool bug

I did some tests. I disabled the second screen, then tried Snipping Tool. "Window mode" works as expected, it let me select the desired window and captures that. Then I enabled the second monitor again and tried to capture a window on the primary monitor. Again it works as expected, it captured the window. I discovered the culprit! I usually control this PC remotely with AnyDesk from my work computer or other computer in home. AnyDesk interferes with the Snipping tool making it capture the entire screen instead of the desired window. The last tests were done locally, not from AnyDesk, so the Snipping tool worked correctly! This issue did not appear in Windows 10 with AnyDesk 6. In Windows 11 I downloaded and installed AnyDesk 7 and it looks like it works differently and affects Snipping tool. I will install and try Snagit and see if this is also affected by AnyDesk 7 and let you know.

I haven't used the eraser, but the new Snipping tool works OK locally or through TeamViewer. Only AnyDesk 7 is affected. It worked OK in AnyDesk 6.

Update: I discovered how to restore the old Snipping Tool. Just copy the file C:\Windows\System32\SnippingTool.exe from a PC running Windows 10 (or from windows.old folder if still available) and the C:\Windows\System32\EN-US\SnippingTool.exe.mui into the respective folders in Windows 11. The problem now is that Fullscreen and Window mode are functionally same. The bug is for both the old Snipping Tool of Windows 10 and the modern Snipping Tool of Windows 11. Both ignore "Window Mode" and capture both screens side-by-side. A workaround is to select "Rectangle area mode" and then mark the whole window, but I find faster and more convenient the old "Window mode" functionality. Any ideas how to make it work appreciated.

If you copy the Snipping tool from Windows 10 and the respective mui file into the same folders in Windows 11 you can then use the good old Snipping tool in Windows 11! This too has the same bug with AnyDesk 7, but I prefer it because I am used to the old interface. The new tool has the icons at a different place and is not very convenient. After you copy the files create a shortcut on the desktop so you can easily run it. If you also prefer the old Microsoft Paint from Windows 10, you can download it from Winaero's site.
