Do you mean to tell me that you found an easy way to get DaVinci Resolve working on Arch Linux with an Nvidia RTX 4090 in such a particular way that didn't require to sacrifice all those customizations that he said he needs to have in conjunction with DaVinci Resolve on it? That was his goal.

That was also my point. You sneeze on it, it breaks. Next, you try to use your duct tape for getting it fixed, only to find out that duct tape just doesn't want to cling to a greasy penguin. So, you go to the store to find super glue, but they are all sold out. And by the time you finally found it, as a direct result of being long winded, everyone has already switched from Linux to freeBSD. 🤣

with the problems i have had with 3 computers so far, 2x 24" AiO's and a dell laptop, upgrading to Win 11 24H2 Linux wins hands down.
never ever had the type of upgrade problems with Linux that i have had to face with Windows.
Ubuntu LTS i upgraded one to another without any major problems with the exception of Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.

i still have 3 other Windows laptops to upgrade yet .. not looking forward to that at all.

No, the videos were filled with irrelevant blaah. Remove that and focus on relevant stuff and it would have been interesting.

Clearly something wasn't working right from the start, yet they proceeded with customizations...that is a big no on any system.

No, what I'm saying is that these kinds of videos are very misleading. First of all, don't touch Arch unless you know exactly what you're doing. They clearly knew how to find information, but not how to solve the problems themselves.

Secondly, don't blame Linux for something that you broke yourself.

The point was that DaVinci Resolve with an Nvidia RTX 4090 usually works right from the start on Windows or if it still doesn't, then usually, it doesn't require you to jump through burning hoops to get it fixed. Had there been an alternative choice for this software on Linux, things would probably be different. The harsh reality is that it still isn't. So, don't blame the average PC user for staying realistic.

By the way...that flickering issue is a P-state issue on high refresh rate multimonitor setups, that was introduced in latest nVidia driver. It is a driver bug and the older one works fine according to reports.

The latest is not always the greatest.

Thank you for confirming my original point. I.e., for the vast majority of PC users, switching to Linux is a bad idea in 2024.

Only moments ago, you admitted that you are unable to solve all the problems that he was experiencing. So then, how do you break something that has always been broken in such a way that not even you can get it fixed? You go on to claim that he is misleading. The burden of proof is on you. Prove it by providing a fix for all the problems that he outlined in the video. Until then, all bets are off.

Finally, I have a list. It contains the names of dozens upon dozens of other software that also have no direct alternative choice available on Linux. Like I earlier said, madVR renderer is on this list. (Another example I gave is the USB driver for the outboard DAC that I use.)

Why would I solve problems I don't have? This dude did never ask for my help, so why would I help him? Stop making false claims and make personal attacks.

If you read my post above...I already have the problem outline mentioned...now it's just a matter of fixing it, either by using different driver or digging deep into nVidia drivers and doing some patches...

This part of the discussion wasn't about you. You were talking about other PC users besides you. I gave you a video to show problems that someone is having with Linux. These are problems that are very much real in 2024. Either you know how to fix them all, or you still don't. So, do you? I'm still waiting. Even if, by some strange miracle, it pans out that a new update has just been released that actually does fix them all, I still have my list of other software that is effectively forcing me to stick to Windows.
