I bought a new ThinkPad a couple weeks ago and have installed 15 programs on it; But I cannot install the Brother printer program on it. I get an error that says that the operation is blocked by the Group Policy Editor, See my Administrator. I have been through that Group Policy Editor both yesterday and this morning and am hopelessly lost on what to change in it . My desktop has had the Brother Printer for ages now and it works OK.

can you supply the link to the program you're trying to install and a screenshot of the error please?

I will be back later today to do it. It Is Sunday and we must leave the house for a few hours. If you are thinking of duplicating the install on your computer, make a registry backup and have your Task Manager open and ready to "End Task". Although it does stop when it gives the pop-up message, it seems to skip over the stop point and continue installing. It is nice to have a fresh" Restore Point" also. There will not always be anything in the "Start - Programs" but there will be parts of the program in "C:/ Programs (x86)", and it is fun to remove them.

I have provided a Brinks tutorial on how to reset all policies, if OP have not completed this task then we are wasting our time with him.

no.. they might have certain things blocked for specific reasons. just need to see if anything related to brother is blocked anywhere (services/policies/etc). I'm not going to recommend resetting policies that may be blocking random programs that could cause issues on their system. that would be like recommending reinstalling windows because your web browser is having issues

Windows now uses its own printer program to enable my brother multifunction printer to work properly i had to install brothers iPrint&Scan software.
this is from your own link.

install iprint and scan software then see if that enables printing.
best of luck, Steve ..

This laptop is new, and I wouldn't know enough to set a policy. Would a program that I installed set a policy? I not I should be able to set it to default with no worry. Can I do system restore if something goes wrong. As far as the Policy Editor goes, I had to search for info about it to learn what it was. I spent a lot of time going through it, and did so again the next day looking at "not configured"
