Upgrade from Win 10 Pro to 11 Update Stuck on Status: Installing 91%

Hi. I am upgrading a Dell Precision 7760 from Win 10 Pro to Win 11. It has been on "Status: Installing 91%" for around 2 hours now. Is this typical? It has not done a reboot yet since starting the download and install.

I recently updated a Surface Pro 7 and it did not get stuck like this.

Your upgrade should be done by now. So no, it's not typical.


Was a BIOS update performed/needed?
Was a compatibility test run?
Do you have USB devices plugged in?
Did you perform an image backup prior to the upgrade?

Until we know more, there is very little to tell you.

Thanks. It is a Dell Precision 7760 with Bios 1.19.0. I have no USB devices plugged in. Just the ethernet cable.

Windows Update did state the computer can run Win 11. I also ran the PC Health Check and that said the same thing.

I decided to click on pause updates. Once paused, I resumed and in windows update it asked if I want to upgrade to Win 11 or stay on Win 10. I chose to stay on win 10. I want to start the process again. Wondering why it was stuck at 91%.

EDIT:

I do have malwarebytes installed and will close that before trying again.
I ran an SFC /scannow an it found no issues.

You know since you are going to try again, may I suggest you download the .ISO from MS.
Also, it's advisable to disable startup programs before you begin.

So I ran it again from windows update. It was ok 20 minutes to get to 91% and another 2 hours to get finish and ask to restart the computer.

After hitting restart it said updating and around 4 minutes later restarted. At around 30% and 12 minutes in it restarted again. It has now been 45 minutes since the last restart and has been on 65% for most of it. Total time is around an hour since the first restart form window update. Hopefully it will finish.

The restarts are driver installs, as most have been updated for Win11.
You should be on your way but it seems quite slow to me, but it is an upgrade.

It finally finished at 1 hour 58 minutes after the first restart from windows update. The dell command update that checks drivers note to update the nvidia driver to the same version already installed. I will run the dell update since no harm reinstalling.
