Upgrading Laptop From Home To Pro - Still Under Warranty

I've always used Pro, going back at least to XP days. There's just extra tools that you can use that you can't do with just Home.

But that's just me.

I had to do mine through the MS Store for $99.00 and it was seamless. Took about 5 minutes to do

You're very confusing. Is this issue with the desktop or laptop???
I have a few months old Laptop with Windows 11 Home.
What would be the disadvantage(s) of upgrading it to Windows 11 Pro?
It's a Dell Inspiron and still under warranty.

Cheers
Now (near 3 pages in)....
The first issue I have is that the desktop not meet the requirements to upgrade from 10 Pro to 11 Pro. The Option #2 method would not work for me until I bypass the requirement restrictions for an upgrade.

Based on your information and the Dell spec sheet I assume you started with either Windows 7 Pro or 8.1 Pro and did the free upgrade to Windows 10 Pro. If true and your going to do a clean install, your best bet will be a clean install of Windows 11 Pro using the key you bought. Since your computer specs don't meet the minimum requirement for Windows 11 you will have to do a workaround to get around that. Most people do that by using Rufus to create a bootable flash drive selecting the requirements they want to bypass. Is this what you are planning to do?

I have decided the best bet will be a clean installation of Windows 11, with Rufus and the configurations.
However, I did not buy any Key. My desktop came with Windows 10 Pro.
Since I have a different drive I had upgraded from 10 to 11, I'll do a clean installation of 11, with my 10 key and see what happens.

Thanks for the info.
Cheers

In using Rufus to configure the installation of Windows 11, three settings have to be made:
- Remove 4GB+ RAM requirement.
- Secure Boot
- TPM 2.0.

The question is, should all the above three be reset to default?

Cheers

You do not need to use a key, you can just click 'I don't have one' when asked. Your PC has an existing digital licence for Pro, it doesn't matter that it was for W10 Pro. Microsoft didn't change anything for 11, the same digital licence is valid for both W10 and W11. Your clean install of 11 will activate from the existing digital licence as soon as it can contact the activation servers.

UPDATE

I had to re-create the Rufus USB to be able to install Windows 11; I also disconnected the internet.

After installation, I noticed the clock was correct; it even changed correctly when the next minute come. How come
the time would be correct without the internet. It's a desktop computer without WiFi (I believe).

After installation, I rebooted three times to make sure all was 'right'.
After reconnecting the internet, during booting, I get the Blue Screen. Please see attached.
I disconnected the internet cable, I can boot, shut down, boot shut down and do it again.

During the first looping and displaying the Blue Screen, it asked to repair the system, I selected that option
but still it said it could not repair it.

All computers have a battery to save the settings in the BIOS and power an internal clock. This is the time shown in Windows. Windows will periodically check the Internet to see if this time is correct. If not then it will update it.

Note if the internal battery is dead then the computer will lose its settings and not maintain when it is powered off. The you will either have to set the time manually or wait until you are connected to the Internet to update it.

Maybe you should try to reinstall Windows 11 with the Internet connected. It is no big deal to start with a Microsoft account. If you prefer a local account you can always change to that afterwords if you want to.

Ok, nice to know about the clock thingy.
But why that blue screen error?

I apologize for the confusion. I clarified it in my post #39.
The current help I need now is on my desktop, installing Windows 11 on an unsupported computer.

I thought I could change the title.
Sorry about the confusion.
Cheers
