Vivaldi browser, anyone using it ?

Yup. It replaced the Opera browser back in 2015 which was around the same time I joined the Ten Forums I think.

Well I've read Mozilla has been having financial problems so their days may be numbered. Thus the reason this and similar threads keep my interest as I might need to find a good viable alternative in the not to distant future. Right now Chrome has been my alternate browser but I always have privacy/tracking concerns when it comes to Google.

I went to chrome now. I still use edge for some things but mostly just use Chrome now(Started to finally have some issues with Edge). I use a paid VPN(Surfshark)...so my privacy is better than not but it would be nice to find a browser to just completely not use any crytominers, ot token rewards or tracking or info stealing or anything, cant there be just a Completely safe and bare boned browser that works is free and people love? Yeah I know good luck or people always say, well create your own browser(I used to be a software developer) which trust me I thought about...lol. But I like the in browser Password manager feature. I currently use Bitwarden which I love.

I used Brave before but the background tabs had white text I could not see (on light background) I couldn't be bothered to find out why - so I just gave up.. LOL

With the number of choices now I guess most are sticking with what they know and are comfortable with. If Firefox goes down I'll probably try out this Vivaldi due to the better privacy over Chrome and Edge. Maybe if I get bored I'll download and play with it sometime.

Since we're on the topic of Tab Stacks. They're an excellent way to organize the multitude of open tabs. There are 3 display options for stacks. Compact, where the stack takes up the same space as one tab. Accordion, where you can expand and collapse the tab stack as needed. And, my personal favorite, two-level tab stacks, where grouped tabs have their separate tab bar.

And it's always cool to watch automatic stacking by hosts/domains - from chaos to order in a blink of an eye.

I've tried several before settling with Vivaldi. aside from the fact that it is feature rich and highly customizable, like you can make your own CSS to customize the browser the way to want it to be. but what really hooked me was the Tab stacks and also Tile tabs. it's a god-send feature. Everything gets organized. You should just try it now. you'll forget about firefox immediately---I did!

Thanks, been browsing through the blog, it does look interesting. One thing I didn't notice is does it have a dark mode option for viewing web pages or at least a good extension like Dark Reader I can use? That's a must for me.

Ok, update; just installed Vivaldi and playing with it. Thankfully the chrome Dark Reader extension works on it otherwise it would have been unusable for me. Didn't know it was going to give me a Vivaldi email account but I set it up on Thunderbird and now have five email accounts, like I need them all lol. Imported my bookmarks from Firefox no problem. Still need to find the dark theme I use in Chrome and figure out a lot of settings, especially for tabs but it's looking good so far.

OK, final update; I'm impressed with Vivaldi. Besides being more customizable and versatile dare I say my initial impression is it appears to be faster then both Chrome and Firefox. That was hard to admit being a loyal Firefox user for many years. If someone could tell me how to get tabs to show in two rows vs a single compressed row I'd appreciate it. I have two-level selected in settings but multiple tabs always display in a single row only.

If you stack them, you'll get a second row.

I just played around with Vivaldi after seeing this thread. It definitely seems to have come along since first coming out...definitely the most customizable Chromium browser. I noticed that it seems to do well in benchmarks (similar to other Chromium browsers) but seemed a bit sluggish in actual use (responsiveness, page load speed, etc.)...especially compared to Edge and Firefox (I don't have Chrome installed). Compared to Firefox, it used less RAM...sometimes as much as half depending on the web site. However, I think I'll stick with Firefox, with Edge as my backup. While Firefox seems to not fare well in benchmarks, I've found the real-world use to be on par with the Chromium browsers...with cleaner interface. The performance of external adblockers (ublock, Adblock, Adguard, etc.) seems to work better than bundled ones. I'll definitely keep an eye on Vivaldi though as it continues to evolve.

Interesting take as mine was the opposite. I find page loading usually appears faster with Vivaldi vs Firefox and Chrome but I guess it will vary for people depending on network equipment etc. I've currently got Vivaldi set as the default browser on both my PC's so I can give it a daily workout so to speak testing it's stability and speed. I've had it crash once so far and the one time I tired videos it seemed to load videos slower then Firefox when I loaded the same videos on Firefox. Well give it a while to see which of the two will be my default and the other will probably be my first backup browser.

After reading an interesting article reporting on major browsers, I dumped Vivaldi and since my recently clean install of Windows 11 Pro, I downloaded Brave browser. It's too early to report, but so far so good. I'm beginning to believe that no browser is what it is said to be when it comes to spying on your browsing and usage.
