I was only curious why @barreleye (post) was showing GatedBlockId 55382406.

Coincidentally, I did not know about these two log files in Windows.

That ID shows up for me too. Haven't got the foggiest what it is. I'll try and find more when I sort out the GPU software issue I'm dealing with.

Re setuperr.log, there are multiple versions so do a search in File Explorer for them all.

Windows 11 24H2 26100.2605 has KB5048685 installed, that supposedly fixes the eSCL bug. I cannot get any of the scanners to work with the Canon scanning software. My other computers also upgraded to Windows 11 24H2 and those computers also experience the same error message.

The Canon Color imageCLASS MF654Cdw printer prints in Windows 11 24H2, just the scanner does not scan with the Canon MF Scan Utility.

The Windows Scan utility from the Microsoft Store does scan from the Canon MF654Cdw printer. Just the Canon MF Scan Utility does not. The Windows Scan utility lacks lots of features that the Canon MF Scan Utility provides. I do not understand how the Canon MF Scan Utility successfully scanned documents without any errors until Windows 11 24H2 26100.2605 restarted.

Note - Windows 11 23H2 26100.4602 works with the Canon MF654Cdw scanner without any problem using the Canon MF Scan Utility.

This makes no sense. After Windows 11 24H2 upgraded, the Canon MF Scan Utility scanned documents without any errors. Once I restarted Windows 11, that is when this error occurred again:

Screenshot 2024-12-12 200342.webp

I checked the setuperr.log and setupact.log files, I cannot find any reason. The setuperr.log file is zero bytes.

I searched for any errors or anything related to this scanning in Event Viewer and nothing.

Based on what I am seeing, the KB5048685 update did not fix the Canon MF Scan Utility working in Windows 11 24H2.

Workaround for the eSCL scanning problem.

Here is the NAPS2 - Not Another PDF Scanner open-source program that can replace the Canon MF Scan Utility. Great little utility that should work with scanners in Windows 11 24H2.

I looked this scanner up. To what I read about it, this scanners uses eSCL because this has native macOS support.

Here is the NAPS2 - Not Another PDF Scanner open-source program that can replace the Canon MF Scan Utility. Great little utility that should work with scanners in Windows 11 24H2.

Thanks for the link Nipdawg. From what I read on that page, I'll still need drivers, right?

I have a very old Cannon Lide 20 scanner which I very rarely used, so it's still in like new condition. Canon apparently quit offering drivers long ago. It worked fine with windows XP, and even today it works in a Win XP running in Virtualbox. But I never got it to work in win 10 or 11.

That may vary on the what the scanner uses. For the Canon MF654Cdw scanner, NAPS2 automatically recognized the scanner with no drivers installed.

I am not familiar with that scanner, but it sounds like the old TWAIN interface that got phased out prior to Windows 10. Worth trying to see if it works. Otherwise continue to run WinXP via VirtualBox.

I seem to remember something about twain drivers, so that's probably what it uses. I guess it's an orphan and won't work with anything later than win XP. I don't need it very often, so I reckon virtual box will get fired up when I need it. It does work well in both XP and Win 2000.

best of luck, Steve ..

I haven't found anything about it on the Internet or at Microsoft.

I have no idea which update fixed this, but i could have sworn I tested the 12-2024 cumaltive update and it didnt work.

But when I tested today again, the scanners are working again and properly listed without the "No Propper name" tag

I double checked, there were no other updates applied after the "2024-12 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5048667)" Update.

Maybe it took a few restarts to get rectified, i have no idea, but it works now without issues.

Although the Canon MF654Cdw MF Scan Utility Ver.1.21.0.2 is still working for me, I switched to using NAPS2 utility as it seems better. I still find it strange that the scanner still works on all 24H2 computers here after it did not.

it maybe because MS have provided a fix for the eSCL problem.

but i still use another print and scanner program as they seem to work better then the MS programs.
best of luck, Steve ..

This is after installing KB5048667 where the scanner still did not work at that time. Then suddenly after rolling back to 23H2 then automatically upgraded to 24H2 with installing the KB5048667 uodate too, the scanner did not work at first. It is confusing to follow because so many things happen while troubleshooting this crazy. problem.

The past several weeks I have been using the MacBook Air M1 where everything has been working as normal. Since I don't have time to constantly fix my computers because of Microsoft's poor updates, I needed to use something that is reliable for now. I do use Windows, Linux, and Mac. Nothing is perfect, all has a variety of problems. But Mac has far less problems.

@Nipdawg
i used Apple once OSX leopard but only for a short while, until i sold the iMac. i used Ubuntu Linux for nearly 20 years before 24.04 LTS just destroyed my system.
i put Win 11 on this system last year to have a look at it after being away from MS for so long and have found it 'not bad'.
major updates on all the operating systems to be a bit hit or miss but i have to say the best of the lot is Debian.

if MS mess about to much with their requirements then i will head to Debian, cinnamon desktop.
best of luck, Steve ..
