PCs with Windows 11 pre-installed will be available later this year.

The Windows 11 upgrade rollout plan is still being finalized but is scheduled to begin late in 2021 and continue into 2022. Specific timing will vary by device.

If you’d like to see if your current PC meets the minimum requirements, download and run the PC Health Check app.

It’s free to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11. But only Windows 10 PCs that are running the most current version of Windows 10 and meet the minimum hardware specifications will be able to upgrade. You can check to see if you have the latest updates for Windows 10 in Settings/Windows Update. The free upgrade offer does not have a specific end date for eligible systems. However, Microsoft reserves the right to eventually end support for the free offer. This end date will be no sooner than one year from general availability.

Windows 11 minimum specs:
  • 1Ghz 64-bit dual-core processor
  • 4GB RAM
  • 64GB storage
  • 9-inch display (1366x768 resolution)
  • UEFI, Secure Boot & TPM 2.0 compatible
  • DirectX 12 compatible graphics / WWDM 2.x

I'm not digging out my old rig to show of Bloomfield running Windows 10 lol.

That one would have failed every Win11 test miserably....

    This is my backup system.
Smart way to try it out. Especially the BIOS access (setting different boot drives). That should keep it completely isolated from your regular install.

I currently use up 2 drives to split the system from \Users and I prefer it that way, so I'm not reclaiming either of NVMe drives for a solo boot. Nor can I reclaim the third because it has other stuff I really need (like the VMs I use).

Don't want to try it on a non NVMe drive b/c I'm spoiled by those now, so I'll be upgrading versus dual booting.

I only have SSD drives in my system, including two NVMe drives so any SSD drive would work for the OS install. I've also ran the access through BIOS thing a number of times so that method doesn't bother me.

I just need to figure out which drive I'd want to use or I could just add another SSD drive from my backup system. Anyway, I'll worry about that when an official ISO becomes available.

I have PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs (3x Rocket 4.0 1 TB) and a SATA III SSD. The NVMe's blow the SATA III away in terms of speed.
