WD My Passport SSD External Drive "Driver Unavailable" on Windows 11

I just got my new PC with Windows 11 and want to transfer all my files from my old mac laptop. The WD My Passport is an SSD external drive that I believe was formatted for use with both Mac and Windows, as I had to transfer files from a different windows laptop to the Mac laptop, and now want to transfer these files to my new Windows 11 PC. The driver is showing up when I plug it into the USB, but it shows this message that the driver is unavailable. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

Drivers are written by the manufacturers of the hardware so your best bet is Western Digital. - they should have then written by now. Microsoft will usually be provided with drivers from WD, and include them in updates and releases but this may take some time

A quick check across the net suggests that this is a regular issue with WD Passport Drives, with availability of the drivers for Windows 8 and Windows 10 also suffering a delay

Actually, the default Windows Disk Driver should be all that's needed. Western Digital does not provide a "disk driver" because as said, Windows default drivers work.

The issue is more likely the drive as those Passport drives can be finicky. I've had 2 go bad on me. I'm a WD user, only use WD HDD drives, and have 3 My Book drives. None has failed, yet 2 of the 3 WD Passport drives I've owned died :(

That said, try using a different cable or USB port. Also, it would help to know which Passport and how old is the drive?

I just plugged in a 1TB My Passport from a few years ago, it's an HDD and no issue except it found an error and is fixing it. It actually didn't find any errors but the drive hadn't yet been used on this 4-month-old Notebook so not unusual.

My experience with external USB drives isn't vast, but I have none that require special drivers. I'm not dealing with going from MacOS to Windows, though.

You said you formatted it "for Mac and Windows" -- so what is the format you used?

One thing about Mac OS X is that it can usually read NTFS but not write to it, don't know about the newer macOS [my MacBook Pro died before I could get it]. Mac and Windows can use exFAT, most distros of Linux can work with more formats.
