Web browsers not working correctly

I have both Firefox and Edge installed. When I search something a page comes up like usual, but if I click on a link it times out. If I click on a link it goes nowhere but if I click on a "people also search for" at the bottom of a google page it takes me there.
Haven't made any changes that I know of. Happens in both browsers. I've tried resetting things, would reinstalling windows be the smartest move?

totally confused here.
Let's start with FF.
Start FF and go to settings and make it the default.

    Been doing computers since '62(IBM 7070/4(just missed their 650!!!). Managed a bunch of 360's. My first PC I think was one of the RS puters (I tried them all), a commodore, an IBM PC w DOS 3.11, and others mainly DIY (COMPUTER SHOPPER!!!) w 95, 98, xp, vista, me, 7!!!, 8, 10!!!, 11.
