What is LTSC and how do you get it?

I've seen a few things online about Windows 11 24H2 now having LTSC. It seems to have a clean interface, minimal apps and no microsoft store. And apparently for enterprise (is that schools, hospitals etc).

So is this available to anyone and do you have to pay for it?

you can easily get it (install and run).

but likely NOT easy to activate.

you can make a minimalist iso via modification of the WIM, or using a tool like NTLite though

The LTSC stands for Long Term Support Channel. It is a version of Windows 11 that is made for dedicated embedded systems, not for general use. It allows the user to customize their version of Windows, with the ability to remove up to 36 software packages, and locks the device into that specific version of the OS.

I am not exactly sure where one gets a license for LTSC. I am not saying it isn’t possible, but beware of websites that sells old keys or some other shonky process of activation.

Windows 11 LTSC is only available to customers with a Volume Licensing agreement, IT specialists and the likes.

I cant remember if its, @BrianInEngland, @jimbo45 or @cereberus that I have read and might have it or have experience with it.

You could probably just as easily use UUDUMP to modify your ISO for Windows, it allows you to remove many things from the installation. It’s a slow process. I only did it once and can’t really help you as it was last year and I think I am still traumatised.

Be aware that LTSC and IoT LTSC are not the same thing.

Ok so not available to just anyone then :-) It was the LT bit that interested me - long term? Does this mean their version will be long term support for up to 10 years by the look of it? Because I am fed up with annual major feature upgrades. Too many changes all the time. I just want something I like and can use and stays the same for as long as possible!

Support is for 10 years for the IoT editions. You can imagine IoT devices tend to stick around for a long time. The non-IoT LTSC edition is supported for five. That's true for Windows 10 and 11 LTSC.
