What version of Microsoft office is compatible with windows 11

Installed office 7 on windows 11. Word works . Excel does not unless I jump through hoops to get to an excel workbook. Numerous error messages!

Assume you mean Office 2007, not Office 7?
Have you set excel.exe to run in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP2? See photo.

I have MS Office 2007 installed and so far Word, Excel and Oitlook work fine.

I tried reloading the files and everything works fine except for excel. It first gives me an error and then won’t configure.

have you tried installing MS office 2007 in Win7 compatibility mode
that may help to get excel working.

also in Windows update > advanced
enable 'also update other Microsoft products'

there still maybe office updates available.

I run Office 2007 on my Windows 11 laptop and my Windows 10 desktop. Both systems are fully up to date and all of the office apps work fine. I have been running this way for years. I think that my copy of Office allows for installation on six different machines.

How many computers you can install Office 2007 on depends on what is in the Microsoft Software License Terms aka EULA.

Here is what I found in the EULA for Office 2007 Standard

INSTALLATION AND USE RIGHTS. Before you use the software under a license, you must assign that license to one device. That device is the “licensed device.” A hardware partition or blade is considered to be a separate device.
a. Licensed Device. You may install and use one copy of the software on the licensed device.
b. Portable Device. You may install another copy on a portable device for use by the single primary user of the licensed device.

The EULA may be different for another version of Office 2007. For example I saw another Office 2007 EULA that says it can be installed on up to 3 devices in the household.

In file explorer search for excel.exe file then right-click on it and select troubleshoot compatibility and select Windows XP SP2 in the prompts that follow. Good luck.

If all else fails you could see if she could get used to LibreOffice. Calc is so similar to Excel and Writer to Word that she may be pleasantly surprised. The Portable App version requires no installation, you could run it from a USB stick to show her.

Libre office even has an office 2003 skin that looks quite nice.

We have to stuck with what she knows; she has panic attacks and I get phone calls from her in the middle of the night.
What got me was that word installed correctly and excel did not.
