What will you use instead of WordPad (Poll)?


What do you intend to use to read/edit the .rtf files, when WordPad is gone?

Your link doesn't seem to work as intended, but you are right. You can just copy the Wordpad files somewhere else to continue using it. I gave this link on how to do that in post #5.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

It's not just RTF, Wordpad can use Microsoft Office Word .DOCX and .ODT files too. Useful if you don't have MS Office.

This days, i use mostly just text files - though Notepad or Notepad++ (if config files) and rarely PDF. But hey, didn't do any office related work lately (and for quite some time). So i don't know. At last job involving office work - we used only Excel from the Office suite. 🤷‍♂️

jarta is based on wordpad but is a stand alone basic word processor.

Yes you can but it is basically used more for Coding and such and is a better Program to use for that purpose. I do not use it as I would Word or Wordpad./

For reading code outside of Visual Studio I use Notepad++. That's what is is best at.

For rarely ever accessed RTF files I just use Word. It's more full featured and the editing experience is better. I have never really liked Wordpad. I felt it was too limited and I would rather use a complete word processor app.

Ditto here, cannot remember when I last used it. I assume MS canned it after analysing how many Windows 11 users use it. My guess is probably not many do.
