Solved Win 11 went from crashing when attempting an update, to not booting at all and refusing to reimage my drives.

Do what you can to test or replace the drive.

It's less not being able to run it and more I can't even get to the software, though I suppose they're somewhat similar in effect.

Unfortunately, that's the problem. I can't get my PC to do a clean install, as mentioned above (I believe on the first page of this mess)

If you have access to another computer, (friend or family), I would make a GParted Live USB or CD...

Then just write zeros to the drive, and then try the clean install.

If that doesn't work, then you may have a bad drive as @zbook mentioned.

F12 will bring up the Boot Menu on a Gigabyte motherboard, in case you don't already know that.

I'm definitely leaning toward a faulty drive as well. Since I'm here, anyone got any tips how to access some semblance of a file explorer so I can try and clear up room for my secondary becoming my primary? I have a 1tb external hard drive for emergencies like this, and it's feeling like it's time to send my main one down the rainbow road, so I'll need to move the important stuff over to that external drive.

Edit: Remember, I can't get any further than the windows setup software.

A GParted Live USB can partition anything. As you probably know... it's Linux based. :-)

I don't need partitions just yet, I need a way to move files from my backup drive to the backup of the backup drive. Everything I'm searching is operating under the assumption I can boot to Windows

Any files deemed important have been moved to a separate drive before I tried to reimage anything, so no worries there.

Seagate USB will not boot on my PC, no matter what I do. When I have it plugged into my partners PC there's no issue. On one hand, I hear what you're saying about Seagate not being able to run likely means a faulty drive, but it's not that the program is failing to run its that it's failing to boot on one sys vs the other, and when it does run on my partners PC it doesn't recognize any connected drives.

When I have it plugged into my partners PC there's no issue.

There are multiple types of drive tests.

A drive can pass one test and fail another.

If there is no issue then run the other drive tests as needed.

I misspoke. There is no issue in that the Seagate usb will boot on her PC, but there is an issue in that it will not recognize connected drives even when Win setup does

I feel like an idiot but you lost me again. What other drive testing software? All I have been suggested to use thus far is the bootable Seagate usb. But I either can't get it to boot or can't get it to recognize drives that other programs can. Still can't boot to anything.

If the drive works in another PC, then it's probably a Windows problem.
A problem that won't let you clean install and/or wipe.
Which is why I suggested GParted Live... it can do pretty much anything, and there's a great online manual...

It could also be a motherboard issue.
Maybe the M.2 port is bad, or the circuit runs between the M.2 port and the CPU.
But let's hope that isn't it. :-)

Trying to run Gparted usb now, but I've been staring at a black screen for a bit so it's seemingly not working.

Either way, I think ima leave it here for tonight. I think I'm probably getting in my way, but am too fired up about this to realize the full extent of my exhaustion. I'll pick it back up in the morning and go from there. Thanks for the tips and help y'all.

You may have to temporarily disable Secure Boot in the BIOS, so the USB stick can boot.
It's a long story and it's Microsoft's fault. :-)

I'm going to bed. It's 2am here.
Good luck.

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
Fun stuff this morning. Running the Seagate usb fails to do anything on my system still; running the same usb on my partners PC fails to detect her functioning SSD, my originally affected SSD, and an unused spare SSD.

As for the Linux usb, I haven't gotten around to reattempting that, but will be shortly. Just wanted to check in as to the utter failure that this Seagate usb seems to be. From what I'm understanding, the other three linked programs require me to be able to boot to an OS. Not happening, unfortunately.

Edit: I'm willing to admit, maybe I'm missing something about Seagate. I went to what was listed, used the zip they provide to create a bootable usb, but the thing that does have me thinking I did something wrong is that, when it  does manage to boot, it shows Seagate for DOS. I figure that's what it should be since I'm testing unflashed SSDs, but it never detecting anything is throwing me off. Especially since booting my partners working drive and running windows Seagate tools shows her drive with no issue, and it passes all tests.

Welp, I got my unused NVMe to install 80% of windows before failing with the error mentioned pages ago. Better than failing at 1% though. Been slow going as I keep getting pulled away.

Finally managed to get the spare drive flashed and running windows. Took it to the main system and the bios doesn't recognize it as bootable. It does recognize there are drives connected, but that's it. I now have the bios running a check of the new drive and will then have it do a check of my backup. Feel like an idiot for not seeing that sooner.

Edit: All tests pass. Not sure why it won't let me boot then

Yeah, it's gotta be a bad mobo. This drive works with no issue on my partners PC, but my PC won't boot to an os at all. Not that Seagate usb and not a freshly installed win11 drive. Running chkdsk on her PC says it's fantastic, chkdsk on mine says it's shoveled and can't be fixed.

That really blows. A new mobo that matches the specs I have now is going to cost way more than it's worth. Bleh.
