I tested the in-place upgrade trick on my unsupported System Two. TBH I can't see anything different in it's 23H2 compared to the 22H2 on my supported System One, both have Copilot and the other Moment 4 features. For all my supported devices I'm just going to wait for Windows Update to offer it.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

I haven’t noticed any particular differences either, but I honestly haven’t looked for any.

You're right. I'm kind of OCD about always getting the latest update, and find it challenging to keep this nearly 11 year old laptop updated. I just like to see if I can do it!

I wanted to upgrad but wasn't seeing it show up on Windows Update on any of my machines. I followed the advice on here and downloaded the .iso from Windows and, sure enough, it update via a repair by reinstall. No issues, except it takes a lot longer than a simple update, and a few Windows settings get reset to defaults. However, it took a lot longer on my laptop to get back up and running. In addition to downloading and including the 23H2 update, Windows is obsessed with downgrading the graphics and sound drivers on my machine. Not a huge problem except that it installs lots of driver software and extensions...e.g. Waves Audio, Killer Networking software, etc. It definitely took a while to clean all of that back off and reinstall current drivers without all the add-ons. I'd prefer to get it via Update but this way works too...if you're willing to take some time to change some settings and drivers.

Nope...it isn't the 23H2 .iso. It is still a 22H2 .iso...but...as mentioned in other threads...at least for now it will pull the 23H2 update during install.

I am really looking forward to test Windows Backup app. I wonder, if it supports restoring system image from the cloud, I would be willing to pay for onedrive for that feature alone. Anyway, I would like to reinstall, since my system partition is 1GB over the limit.

Yes, I thought the same about the backup app, that it might come in use. So it’s still only going to be available to onedrive users?

Are you using supported or unsupported hardware? I tried it twice a few days ago by replacing the appraiserres.dll and it ran a bunch of updates, but still left me on 22H2. If you are using unsupported, what method did you use to update?

MS realized thier mistake/oversight and shut the door on that "feature" about a week ago.

That's what I thought. But you posted yesterday that the 22H2 ISO would pull the update for 23H2. How did you do that? I'm sorry if I didn't understand or misreading your post.

I installed it on (1) unsupported device (desktop computer with i7-7700K) using the appraiserres.dll replacement method, and downloaded using the Media Creation Tool. I unzipped the .iso and ran setup from within existing Windows (22H2 at the time). I did the same thing with (1) supported device (Dell XPS 15 9510) but obviously didn't need to adjust appraiserres.dll. The desktop machine is Win 11 Pro and the laptop is Win 11 Home. This was on Monday (16 OCT) and that is the current install date showing next to version 23H2 and OS Build 22631.2428. There are/were some other threads on the subject on here and, after waiting for a while, just had the itch to try...someone said that while the 23H2 iso wasn't available, if you let the 22H2 setup run all of its updates it would pull 23H2 and it did for me. Maybe you're right and they turned it off since Monday.
