Windows 11 saying password will expire soon


Just to confirm if you have any worries, you wont have to sign in with a password when this is all over. If you have a pin set, you can continue to use it.
If you want to automatically log into Windows, there’s a tutorial from Brink for that also.

To add to what is being said,
If you have an older version of Windows 11 that hasn't been updated to a newer or the latest version Windows 23H2 you will get this message.
Go to Search and type winver and press Enter. Check you version #.
You can always manually update to the latest build here.

Ok, so it asked me to reset the password today. And I did, and now I have to enter it each time to log back onto my computer when I turn it on or when it's asleep. There needs to be a simple way in Windows to remove this, something under the Settings Menu, without running command prompts.

This is normal after changing your password. You'll need to use option one in the tutorial below to set up netplwiz again with the new password.

I ran netplwiz. I don't have the box that lets you uncheck it, so that the user does not have to enter a password. How do I get that box?

The reason being, if Passwordless Sign-In is enabled, the option for users to log in (or not) with a password wont be available. The setting you need wont be available.

If you have a local account the simplest way to go straight to the desktop at startup is to set a blank password. To do that see:

But before you remove the password, first set 'Require Sign-in on Wakeup' to 'Never' else you'll still see the sign in screen on waking from sleep (you won't be asked for a password, but you'll have to click 'Sign in' to clear it). This option is only visible while a password is set. See Option Three here:

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.
