Windows 11 ISO from Microsoft site or UUP dump for latest Build?

I would download from Microsoft. Either way I'm sure it will have to be updated to the newest build.

If you want to play it safe, the ISO from Microsoft. It'll probably lag the latest release, and require Windows Update to do its thing.

That said, I've never regretted using a UUPDump download. After using an ISO from there, sometimes Windows Update will request to update to the same version. The update doesn't actually complete. AS far as I know, the UUPDump version is identical to what Microsoft would provide. (The files used to generate the ISO are apparently all downloaded from Microsoft.)

I prefer to go to the horse's mouth for stuff like this. There's no telling what might happen in the future to those images. I think I'd trust that the image from Microsoft would be more secure as far as any compromise.

Then use rufus to write the new iso to your USB stick. I recommend using the default settings (everything checked except the top one (unless you need that) ) .

I've never used Rufus to make a normal bootable USB installer.

I have had to split install.wim when it's larger than the 4GB limit of FAT32. It's easy enough with the DISM utility, not that I understand what I'm doing with it.

Why do people advise unecessarily complicated solutions. These are only needed if pc is not win11 compatible.

Just download official MS media creation tool, use create usb option, boot from it and install it.

It will automatically update to latest version.

As Sergei says "simples".

RUFUS is really handy if you want to create install media that takes care of extra options. RUFUS is NOT solely for installs for systems that don’t meet requirements, it is also a tool that can be used for the pre mentioned, formatting stubborn USB’s and other uses.
And it’s not just for creating install media solely for Windows.

If you use RUFUS to create your install media, you can stipulate a username and local account, disable Bitlocker etc.

4. When instigating the creation of the media and clicking “Start”

The following options will present themselves. Check or uncheck what you like.

I don't split the install.wim file for a USB installer. Instead I split the USB drive into two partitions; format 1 as FAT32 and the second as NTFS. I then save the sources file (with the install.wim file) to the second (NTFS) partition and the rest goes on to the FAT32 partition. But, I have to create a sources folder in the FAT32 partition and copy/move the boot.wim file to it. I can boot from the USB and install Windows without a hitch. Try it, you might like it.

Sounds more advanced than what I'm familiar with, but maybe simple enough.

I rarely do a clean install of Win 11, so it may be a long time before I'd try it.

It's defiantly faster than clicking around Microsoft ISO Download page and waiting

I don't understand why everyone knows Rufus, but they never use Fido (which is part of Rufus). Unfortunately MS removed all the ISO downloads except for the last one for W10 & W11.

You don’t have to put an ISO downloaded via Media Creation Tool directly onto a USB. You can just stipulate ISO only.

The Windows ISO direct links from Microsoft are older than the versions downloaded via Media Creation Tool.

Option One
