Windows 11 takes long to boot

Also you would be much better on boot times by transferring Windows to the new Crucial Nvme drive. ;-)

I can't see the NVMe drive here.

BTW, Transferring the system to the NVMe drive is what I've been trying to do for the past two days. That was the whole idea of my buying the SSD but this problem stopped it - just for a while I hope.

I am truly (not really) amazed to see this still going on. I need my morning chuckle. (takes me about 30 sec from power on to windows login screen and less than 5 after that.

Could we see a pic of task mgr/Processes/cpu right after desktop appears? and then again 20 sec later. Tnx. I'll reboot and show an example.

the pics below are right after a 39 sec "restart" and the second is +20sec

Well, this thread has evolved into something else, from slow boot to problem with my M.2 NMVe SSD. Maybe I should have started another thread. Anyway, restarting my PC now took 1 minute+ with the spinning wheel and "Restarting". That alone says that something strange is going on in my machine. Here are the picurtes.

Acronis runs a background app (like most image backup pgms.
rt click taskbar / chose task mgr/startup apps and disable it. It doesn't do anything important.
Also since you are in to it, do a screenshot of that "startup apps" page and it may take a couple screenshots to get them all.

Long past time we looked at that !!!

EDIT - "antimalware svc exec": uses a lot of your machine. Change from Win defender to Bitdefender AV free for a few days/week and see how your machine runs. but definitely want to look at startup apps page.

I have six startup apps and as far as Acronis I have to check which ones to disable. I have now just three discs, apart from the M.2 SSD. I'm still booting from the SATA SSD and boot time is now down 25 seconds so that's good. Closing or restarting the PC takes 2:50 which is horrendus. It must have something to do with the M.2 SSD. This is what it looks like in BIOS, the last item says M.2 empty.
When I try to set CSM to disabled I get the message "Due to Microsoft secure boot regulations, ensure the MS signed UEFI driver is contained in the plugged PCI-E based storages including M.2 SSD before setting the Launch CSM to Disabled.". I don't understand yet what that means.

After all this time, chasing something, and installing drivers over drivers, and disabling services, and being no closer to an actual diagnosis of the problem, would it not be easier to make a backup, clear the boot drive, unplug all other drives, Install a clean Windows, with only the boot drive attached.

CSM should be OFF for reinstall, All Microsoft drivers are signed, and should get the system up and running.

If it (as I assume it will) Boots quickly after initial setup, start adding extra drives one by, one, test and reboot, if you hit a sudden booting roadblock, then you have found a faulty drive that is reporting as good. if not, Reinstall software. No extra NVME drivers, Most are outdated now anyway and unneeded by anything other than the bloatware they get you to install. Just Install, Chipset, audio, graphics, and then optional software packages for items that need them.

If it boots slowly from fresh, you have a configuration problem within the bios, or faulty Hardware

Also you would be much better on boot times by transferring Windows to the new Crucial Nvme drive. ;-)
For sure! I have my first computer with a pair of Crucial P310 2TB 2280 PCIe Gen4 3D NAND NVMe M.2 SSD drives, what a difference! I thought my SATA SSD drives were fast, who am I kidding! :D

Thank you all for your help. My suspicion from the get go was not that bad. I replaces three bad Seagate HDDs and added an SSD. My boot time now is down to 25 seconds which is quite acceptable. I tried to disable CSM but the system objected that my video card was not UEFI compatible. I have some issues with my M.2 SSD but I will start a new thread to deal with that. I'm now closing this thread.
Thanks again!

I am reading only the last few posts on this thread. My recent experience with slow booting is probably relevant to this thread.

About 4 weeks ago, I started experiencing slow booting from my 250 GB Samsung EVO NVMe drive. It got worse with time and stopped booting with a message stating something about GPT issue and suggestions to make some changes in the bios. This was not helpful. I was under the impression that the Motherboard had needed to be replaced. A guy at a computer shop had a quick look told me that there was no issue with the motherboard

I have a second practice Windows 11 copy on my desktop, which was booting fine.

From this second Windows 11 I deleted the Windows 11 and converted the drive to MBR and then again to GPT. I then restored a Macrium image on the drive and it cured the problem.

This Samsung EVO NVMe SSD was probably 5 years old. I switched over to a- Samsung SSD PRO (SSD 980 PRO) which I was using as storage for one year. I cloned the windows on this SSD and my system is booting up at turbo speed!

Have to boot with pincode ( boots fine in 20 seconds ) , when deleting pincode/password it takes about 60 seconds ..........!
So , have to use a pincode , which I never used in 23H2 ( booted also in 20 seconds , without pin/pass !)

HOW (??) to get my boottime to 20 seconds in 24H2 , without pin/pass again ( the way it was in 23H2 ) :look: ???

I can login automatically. With windows 11. You have to disable "windows hello" first and then run netplwiz

See the 2 screen captures.
