Solved Windows Build 22621.2134 Optional Latest Updates


On this subject of Optional Updates why is a Cumulative Update Preview listed as an Optional Update and you can choose to install it or not, but a .NET Preview Update is automatically downloaded and installed. I pause Windows Updates after installing the mandatory Patch Tuesday updates and I manually check for updates from time to time until the next round of compulsory updates. The optional CU Preview is shown as available to install but .NET is downloaded after checking. Would appreciate any opinions. Thanks.

You see, when you pause updates for a week or a bit longer and then Check for Updates, that will cancel your Pause option.
Why .Net is installed automatically I don't know but, the CU preview is just that a Preview and is subject to you downloading
it manually. Maybe someone else can explain why the .Net is installed without any other interaction from us.

Thanks Flashorn. Not sure why there appears to be little control over .NET Preview updates other than don't manually check for updates which isn't really practical. I did notice however that the auto downloading of these updates happens more on Windows 10 than 11 although my update settings for both OS are the same. Thanks again.
