As it has been seven days since the computer locked up when waking it in the morning, it appears that the problem(s) has/have been fixed. My thanks to those who provided me with the steps I needed to take to try to remedy the situation. These were things I had used in the past, but I don't believe I had ever done so for lockups, so it did not occur to me to use them.
