Solved 24H2 In-Place upgrade fix for RUFUS v4.5 created 24H2 install USB


Rebooted now WAU shows the Update. Not sure what it's for though. Downloading again through WAU. Not showing still updating that was awful quik though.

To get back on track for this thread, what have we learned?

  • Rufus 4.6 works for an In-Place Upgrade when running setup.exe from within File Explorer. Without the need of manual registry changes.
  • Princes Leia and Luke Skywalker are brother & sister (and probably already knew it)
  • WAU Manager will only prevent Updates to the latest ISO if it is installed & activated to look after updates, before you do an in-place upgrade using Rufus
  • For WAU Manager to work, you need to Save and Apply the settings for it to take over from Windows Update. This should be done prior to the In-Place Upgrade if you’re wanting to stall/pause Windows Updates for the ISO Build you will be using:

It could be my memory is not too good. Whatever it was I guess WAU downloaded it. Unless it still shows up in Win Update. It's (KB5044284) still shows failed with that number but I didn't click retry. 2024-10 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5044284)

I think you’re doing too much.

To do an in-place upgrade to Windows 11 Version 24H2 build 26100.2033 you need to download the ISO via the Microsoft Media Creation Tool

If you downloaded the ISO from Microsoft without using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool, then you got Windows 11 Version 24H2 build 26100.1742

If you downloaded and did an inplace upgrade using Windows 11 Version 24H2 build 26100.1742 ISO
and you did not install WAU Manager before you did the upgrade, Windows would have attempted to update the build to 262100.2033

If you want to check that KB5044284 was installed, click on Uninstall Updates in WAU Manager and see if it is in there.
If it is, don’t worry?

But that error you posted has been mentioned quite a few times, just search the error code in here.

Typing winver into search and pressing enter gives you the proper build.

Before you did an in-place upgrade with 26100.2033 ISO, what build were you on? 26100.1742?

Fully updated on Win 10 pro Used Registry entries Bree directed me too. Went on fine just showed the disclaimer I had to eccept.
