About to format Dell partitions to install vanilla W11, can you tell me what each partition is for?

Perhaps I've just been lucky, as I see many people needing the RST drivers on a Web search. I've had to install drivers or slipstream drivers in the past but Windows 10 ISO has so far always found the drive for me.

It's not just 12th gen, I encountered the problem on an 11th gen last year on a clean install for an Acer laptop

Wow! I have the 10th generation and I guess I should count myself lucky. Because I clean installed Windows 11 on this machine without a hitch

No, I see from a Web search that it has affected many users. I've just never, not one single time on at least 20+ installations of Windows 10 ran into this issue. I've run into it hundreds of times on every version of Windows prior to Windows 10. Since it's always worked for me on Windows 10 I've not bothered to investigate the details behind it. Even so, if you do run into it then it's an easy fix, more so than it was many years ago.

Yep, if you don't know the secret sauce it can be difficult. Today there is so much information available to help people track down issues. Many years ago there was a lot less information available. Today there are sites dedicated to information on doing just about anything you can think about or come across. The XP, EIGHT, TEN, ELEVEN forums here are one great example. So much information is available at your fingertips.

Just thinking out loud here as I've not cleaned installed Windows in a long time. If using the MCT on a working Windows machine there's an option to to create it for 'the device you are currently using'. Would that option include the RST drivers as opposed to creating the MCT for a new PC? Just seeing that some don't seem to have had the issue.

I'm like you and not used it since I can't remember when. I don't recall seeing that specific option though.

No, That option just pre-selects the language (and number of bits, if using the W10 MCT) to be the same as that of the PC running the MCT. Un-tick that option if you need to make install media for a different language.

I know you marked it solved and I know you wanted to so a clean install, but IMO, I would have just removed all the programs, software, etc you didn`t want.
Laptops can be a real Biotch to do a clean install on, so it may have saved you some time and aggravation.
Just my thoughts, Brian :)

No. MCT never adds drivers from the local computer.

1. You have Intel VMD (Volume Management Device) enabled in BOIS.
2. You have Intel hardware RAID enabled.
3. You have Optane Memory enabled.

You do not need the IRST drivers for:
1. Standard NMVe (Intel VMD disabled)
2. SATA (without RAID)
