Now if you want it in a file you do :
ver > d:\new\version.txt [modify dir and drive to your setup]

slmgr is a VBScript, which by default runs in the GUI version of Windows Script Host. You'll need to run it with the command line host if you want to pipe it to the clip command.

Batch: 
cscript slmgr /dlv | clip

cscript c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs /dlv | clip

Or this (if you are already in c:\windows\system32):

cscript slmgr.vbs /dlv | clip

There is a lot of neglected areas like this in Windows. For instance, no version of Windows (WinXP+) to date has ever allowed me to scroll the Disk Management's bottom disk partition table panel using the mouse or trackball middle scroll wheel, while other windows do. This has never been corrected and probably never will.
