Activation of Win 11 Pro keeps failing

You're giving up, but I wonder about the drive being "split". My boot disk has 3 partitions: a smallish (100MB) FAT32 boot partition, the primary C: partition, and a medium-sized (770MB) recovery partition. They are all from the Windows default installation.

Is your HD arranged differently from that?

But, if you've "been dealing with PCs and Laptops for over 25 years", you're already familiar with that.

Thanks again, bobkn; yes, it did have the boot partition and the recovery partition. But I discovered that, there was a C drive of about 120 GB and a D drive with the rest (the entire SSD disk holds 512 GB). That was totally unexpected. I seems as though I got a laptop that someone else had owned before and had messed it up, but quality control did not take care of all that and clean it up. BTW, the warranty paper by KUU-Tech says it has Windows 11 installed. So it was just my luck that I ended up with a lemon. Others had commented in the reviews for that laptop and no one brought up a problem with Windows not activating.

That is common.
It is also very useful. Many of us deliberately set things up this way ourselves.
You install the OS on the 120GB partition.
You use the D:\ drive partition for your own files.

You backup the OS partition using a system imaging utility such as Acronis/Macrium/...
You use any of the thousands of options for backing up your own files from D:\.

If your OS ever gets corrupted, you restore the OS partition without your own data getting overwritten.

I guess that you are already returning it, but I can maybe offer one piece of the puzzle.

You could do this:

1) Open a command prompt as administrator.

2) Run this command:

powershell "(Get-WmiObject -query ‘select * from SoftwareLicensingService’).OA3xOriginalProductKey"

3) One of two things will happen: Either a product key will be displayed, or nothing will be displayed. If a key is displayed, then that means that the BIOS does indeed have an OEM Windows key integrated into the BIOS. If it returns nothing, then the system does not include an OEM product key in the BIOS.

If no license key, I would by highly suspicious. If a key is reported, that's a good start, but at this point I cannot determine how you would lookup that key to figure out if it is for a Home edition or Pro edition of Windows.

    The five 8TB drives and three 512GB SSDs are part of a DrivePool using StableBit DrivePool software. The three SSDs are devoted purely to caching for the 8TB drives. All of the important data is stored in triplicate so that I can withstand simultaneous failure of 2 disks.

Thank you, hsehestedt. I actually did that. And it returned nothing. Nothing was found. On the other hand, the keyfinder utility finds a product key, but it isn't valid.

Ahh, yes. In that case, no built-in key exists. If Windows had ever been activated on that system, it should be able to automatically activate once again after installation. However, here is the pickle that you have:

1) If the system had a built-in key, then when you perform a clean install of Windows it will auto select the right edition of Windows to install, based upon that built-in key.

2) If no key is preinstalled, you need to select the edition of Windows to install. If you guess correctly, it will activate when done. If you guess incorrectly, it will not. So, since you have already tried Pro, you could simply try Home to see if that works.

That may be wisest.

A quick Web search doesn't show a lot of instances of Yepbooks sold with no Windows key.

My guesses about the laptop may all be wrong. I'm probably displaying anti-Asian bias.
