I still have (but no longer use) FF ESR 52.09, which I had stopped at due to this being the last version for which the legacy extensions as TMP and Colorful tabs actually worked. Nothing comparable to those, though I found alternatives to most after updating to Firefox Quantum, portable (so that I could still run ESR). And as described, find out how to regain multiple tab rows (which legacy TMP enabled) was a key factor in updating

Being able to regain functionality and enhancements that were lost under the psychology of minimization or whatever is behind breaking things that worked (besides security), has been a mostly successful pursuit, thank God.

I've used Firefox ESR and Thunderbird for years now.

Jeez, as far as legacy extensions go, I got over that a long time ago.

Time to move on and accept things as they are. Or stick with buggy, unsecured nonsense like Pale Moon.

Slimjet does seem cool. Lots of features Slimjet Version History

And they did a good job explaining who they are and why they do it. https://www.slimjet.com/en/about-slimjet.htm
Thanks. I favor those who do not follow Google/Chrome in imagining the minimization is best.I myself use multiple portable Firefox and Floorp and Vivaldi installs (running concurrently, and with multiple tab rows enabled), and after I read the below, I thought I would try Slimjet:

Chrome is famous for its persistence with minimalist-style design. A minimalist design does appeal to a lot of people who just want to surf the internet without even paying attention to the browser itself or thinking about how to use it. However, Chrome's interface is barely customizable and contains too few options. If you are a user who always wants to do things in the most efficient way, you will find Chrome inconvenient and cumbersome to use in many ways. Therefore, we are adding more options and settings in Slimjet to make the browser more flexible and customizable. You can tune the browser appearance to your own personal taste or customize it to maximize your own personal productivity. While we add so many additional options and settings, we add it in a way so that the user interface stays clean and simple. Advanced users can find what they always want while the basic users don't get unnecessary distractions. - https://www.slimjet.com/en/about-slimjet.htm

However, I downloaded the portable and full installer 64-bit, but unlike other executables, neither would execute to install. Not a AV issue. But 64-bit web installer ( 0.34MB,2024-12-31) worked.

One issue I have found that my AutoHotKeys do not work in this browswer, which is the only one that does this.

Bookmark Bar pre-loaded with this stuff is an immediate red flag!

I never would have expected that from what I read.
It's got some nice tweaks, but, it also comes preloaded with many useless add-ons!
And, they're also a couple versions behind on Blink!

Wow I never would have expected that from what I read. Email them and ask wtf.

Well you know the old saying; "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is..."

Slimjet would need money in order to survive, so they probably get it through having ad sponsorships like the pre-installing of bookmarks and add-ons.

Well, they said:

"Some people might wonder why we choose to integrate so many features directly into the browser. Why not let it handled by external plugins and extensions? In the real world, many users who are not computer geeks don't know how to find the right plugins to get their job done. And the quality of third-party plugins is not consistent. Many people get easily frustrated after trying a couple of plugins that don't work so well. And lastly, external plugins are less efficient and takes more disk space compared with internally implemented features. Therefore, we have chosen to implement more essential and handy features internally to make Slimjet more capable and easier to use."

That resonated with me because I don't want to rummage through extensions and then have to force them to be installed (in the case of ublock on chrome).

I'm running 3 extensions: ublock, Dark Reader, and Save Page WE. I might want more but there are just too many to pick through.

I like that window split option that you were on about before but then I wonder how often I'd really use it.

And, they're also a couple versions behind on Blink!

What's Blink?

I was wondering how they made money, then I saw the contribution link. I guess that's not enough lol.

Well, another way to look at it is maybe it's easier to delete the overt bloat from Slimjet than the covert bloat from others.

What's wrong with firefox? I've been using it for years - and install has got faster and faster - it's impressive. The only browser issues I've ever had have been with Edge and Chrome but mainly I find the settings menus less intuitive on Chrome and Edge.

I use firefox but less than chrome mainly because it's slower, more resource intensive, and hounds me incessantly to update.

It's about the same on android too however an older firefox is the only browser I've found that will play a youtube video with the screen off and even while talking on the phone (and the other person can't hear it). So I use firefox (or any mozilla: Fennec, IceCat, etc) for videos and chrome for maps or anything I need speed for.

IMO there are really only 2 browsers: chromium and mozilla/gecko. The gecko ones have always been slower for me.

I guess that answers my question what Blink is lol

I do not like it either, but I presume that is a way to obtain funding, and you can remove them.
