I regard secondary drives as safer for your personal data for the following reasons.
- Secondary drives usually do less work and therefore less prone to failure.
- They are also less likely to be compromised by malware.
- Your data is also immune to an operating system failure.
Another thing with storing data in the Windows system folders is that in the event of an operating system failure, it can sometimes be harder to retrieve your data, as Windows security can make it more difficult for you to gain access to it.
