Problem with TDP quoted by Intel is it's for idle/low power usage mode and those 205W are electrical power consumption while it doesn't scale linearly to TDP. TDP is more of an indication of efficiency and newer Intel CPUs have those "Efficient" cores that improve efficiency even at higher loads so losses as indicated by TDP are not as great as they could be.

I just used Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut on a new i7-13700K CPU and get and idle temperature 32C with a Noctua NH-D14 air cooler. I set a temperature limit of 85C which is only hit in Cinebench. Even then the benchmark is only a few percent short of the normal benchmark for that CPU.

I'm using Thermal Grizzly Hydronaut right now instead of previous Nt-H2 as it's more suited for liquid cooling.

exactly, Just a bit of a pointless number, I'd rather they just said this CPU is rated between 95w and 205w. Life made easy. As opposed to, Im getting a new cpu and i only need 65watts to run it, lets get a tiny power supply when in reality it can use alot more.

Also noticed today, my PC was 82C yesterday night then I tried turning it on today at the front of the PC and it would not turn on until I turned the PSU off and on at the back... is this due to the CPU being 82C last night?

I did shut it down last night and it's been off for over 12hours...

No, CPUs cool down within seconds and your CPU is good for 90c before hitting limit where it slows down and over 100c to shut down.

90C is that the CPU or Diode, package as it says 91C on them?

Still not hot enough to shut it down or prevent from turning on after that. TjMax is for core temperature not package.

Modern AMD CPUs are usualy around 10°C less capable than Intel CPUs - so 90°C is the max temperature at which they're still deemed stable (the alternatives from Intel can handle even a max if 100°C - if it's a Desktop CPU).

Even tho, it's true that Stress Tests - take your CPU to extremes (far from what you'll see with most apps - even a demanding game like Diablo IV) - but still - you max temps seem to close for comfort. Be it an airflow issues (fans mounted incorrectly - maybe taking air in from the back instead blowing it out - or vice-versa for front panel fans). I recommend limiting the Max Boost Frequency to 4.00 Ghz till you figure the issue (that should lower the temps by at least 5°C - hopefully

). Quite easy to do - even with Windows Power Plan - tho you'll have to active this feature:

Then set the plugged in variable to 4000 Mhz. Hopefully, that should do it - till you figure out the cooling issue.

I agree, you're on the money with this Mike.

On a correctly setup PC if the temperature of the CPU reaches its defined limit the CPU will be throttled. On my 13900k the limit is 100 degrees Celsius. For example Cinebench R23 on multicore setting stresses CPUs and can cause throttling. The best tool for watching this in action is with HWinfo64.

Thanks guys and any idea what would cause it to not boot when I press the front button, and only boot after I turn the PSU off and back on then press the front button on case to make it boot again?

HWinfo some handy measurements to watch.

and core temps per core

Those values are what frequency and boost AMD's algorithms take into account. That's dynamically adjusted for different cores, if one core gets overloaded and over average temps, load is shifted to coolest cores.
Voltages can also contribute to high temps, With 5000 series Ryzen the can be dynamically controlled by using Core Optimizer built in BIOS, -20 to max of -30 should drop temps by few degrees while still maintaing performance.
In addition, 5950x has cores in two chiplets of which one could be or contain hottest core while other ones staying way cooler.

Could be a problem with the +5V PSU standby supply or handshaking signal not operating correctly. When the PSU main switch is on then the PSU should supply +5V permanently to the motherboard. When you press the On switch, the motherboard signals the PSU to fully power on. Can check using the 'PSU paperclip test'.

Apart from the 3 fans on the AIO Radiator I have an additional 7 case fans which are also on balanced setting in iCue, meaning if the temps rise the fans will increase speed as\when required. The 3 fans on the GPU are setup the same.

See the screenshot from iCue (fans 1-3 are the Rad fans) . Note it is winter here (-3 degrees Celsius) atm. So cooling an i9 13900k is easy this time of year.

This worked great my temps are 65C now, any idea what to set them in the BIOS?

I'll try and keep this simple as it can get a bit convoluted to explain.

It depends how you have the AIO and fans setup. If you have the AIO and fans connected via the Corsair Commander Core module (that appears to be the case) then you don't need to do anything in the bios. I haven't touched the default cooling settings in the bios of my Asus Z790 mainboard at all. Not sure if AMD UEFI BIOS are different though.

On my PC the Corsair modules (Commander Core and Commander Pro XT) are connected via the USB connectors at the bottom of the mainboard. So the fans aren't connected via the mainboard fan headers. The only part of the AIO that is connected directly to the mainboard is the AIO pump tach cable which is connected to the CPU fan header.

I control everything relating to fan\AIO pump settings from Corsair's iCue software. The very latest version is much better than the older very clunky versions. You can of course create custom fan profiles in iCue as well.

For advanced help you may consider using the Corsair Community Forum to ask specific questions about setting up Corsair AIOs. Corsair's own technicians regularly contribute.

Thanks, I set the BIOS fans to Turbo and the ICUE to Balanced as there is no Turbo setting in ICUE...

You can create your own custom profiles iCue. If what you've done works then great.
