The W11 folders just don't look anywhere near as good to me personally.

Tweaked the W11 version, looks a little better methinks now.

I like the first one better. I'm guessing you do also lol. The second one is ... passable. But it's what they've put in the system so, I say no lol.

Documented? No. But it is resource intensive, as it would always scan the folder to update the contents intead of being static, and I think that was a major blunder on their part.

Nice choice in music, the Furs even made it to some popularity here in the states in the 80s, my late adolescent and teen years.

The original format of the icons is 2500 x 2500 px at 300 ppi, I think I went a bit overboard when creating the template for them.

That's future-proof.
Who knows when they increase the default DPI on displays... there you still have room for the right size export.

Excellent point. I used to think that 24x24 was more than large enough for a toolbar icon set, but then I got a 4K display - and realized that, at 27 inches, even 48x48 icon set is not really large enough lol.

And resolution is sure to continue to increase.

Earlier versions of W10 don't have a problem hanging on to the icon cache!

But the icon cache in Windows is a PITA to begin with, for folders that don't change it shouldn't matter, but my speculation is that there was something that just didn't play nicely.

Maybe it was simply it didn't look right with the new folder icons, who knows?

I personally don't care, because I don't care that my folder shows the AlbumArt - as long as my music player does, I'm good. So the new change isn't as abhorrent to me.

@Lucas North thanks for the custom icons I hope you don't mind as I used the Blue folder to make my own custom folder for Browser backups & Wallpaper ect.
